Will the new DX 5x XR-E R2 modules fit in a Mag C cell

I've read about many people putting these 5x modules into mag D hosts after some filing and elbow grease.

How about the C cell Mags? I know the head of the light is the same diameter, but the tube is much smaller on the C cells.

I thought one of these 5x XR-E R2s in a 2C Mag with 2 Li-Ion 25500 would make an awesome combination of portability, output and runtime.

Thanks in advance for sharing!

I'm not 100% positive, but I don't think it should have a difference because the actual head itself is the same size from D to C; should be the same. The only size difference would be the tube. I wish I had a C size mag so I could do some measuring for you. I plan on doing the same mod with a 4D.

I could be wrong about this, but I thought I read where someone stated that the base of the heatsink fit just right into the neck of a Mag C tube, and was better for heat transfer than in the D cell.

I've done it. Besides filing the threads off the module and the inner lip off of the Mag head, you also have to trim the top few threads off of the neck, in order for the head to screw down passed the gasket once the module is installed.

How was the heatsinking? Was there sufficient contact with the host body?

Which SKU are you guys talking about?... I have a drilled 2C mag waiting for something interesting.

**edit**
Never mind looks like you all are discussing SKU:35242

Could you share some pictures of your mod? Is it a 2C or 3C host, and what are you using for power / circuitry?

I've been trying to find some Mag 2C or 3C lights, they seemed to have disappeared off the shelves with all the new rebel D MagLEDs that are coming out.

I've used the 5*CREE module in a few builds. The only one that contains 5 XREs in series is the purple 2C Mag on the table in my signature pic. It's driven by a DX 26106 boost module and two LiFePO4 18650. It started out in a 3C and two Sony 26650VT. I don't have a build thread for that one linked in my "list your lights" page (my torches link in my sig line). If I did blog about it, it would have been referred to as the "Mark V".

Other lights that I used the same module in with various drivers and combinations of MC-E and XRE include:
The Mark VIII 1 warm white MC-E surrounded by 4 warm white XR-Es, driven by two DX 20330 and two Sony 26650VT (Mag 3C)
The XX-Ray 5x neutral white MC-E driven by 3 blue sharks and four IMR18650 (Mag 2.25D)
The LED USL 5x neutral white MC-E in series (5s4p) directly driven by 16 NiMH AA (Mag 3D)
