Does anyone think/know if there will ever be a sub 3inch CR2 type light that wont clean out the wallet? As in under $50 bucks? I was ready to go the ORB route but my intentions are for a backup that can be slipped into a coin poket and barely be noticed yet have enough capacity to run for a little while (like 4-6 hrs) even if only a single stage but be reliable and ready to go with a simple twist ? The Orbs are fantastic but at over $80 bucks I just cant afford/justify it since it will mostly sit in a pocket and never be used unless my primary fails or its battery dies in use . AAA lights are just too long and the output is pathetic on the E01 and the likes.

There really isnt anyting out there . The old MJ Extreme cr2 and Cr2 Ion are perfect but for gods sake $150 bucks?

I'd be interested. I bought 10 CR2's by accident and have nothing to use them in. :shakehead

I neck carry my CR2 Ion and at the time I considered it quite affordable, only $150 for a beautifully well made custom. Runtime is 1.5 and 20 hours if I recall correctly. Even amongst flashlight afis, CR2 is not a popular format so I'd hardly expect it to see broader (Fenix, Nitecore) appeal. JIL lite used to be a fairly inexpensive CR2 light ($50?) but I don't know if they are still made.

A small, easily pocketed, multi-function, CR2 light.

The switch is behind the cushioned headplate so acts like a lockout until you unfold the ratcheted plate that the strap can be fit onto.

You can buy a peak Pacific with a CR2 pocket body in your price range.
Top quality light for $50 Peak LED Solutions Pacific I suggest you ring them and ask about the CR2 body.
Norm

P.S. the light is under 2.5 inches.

I do like those Cr2 Ions and they do seem of the best quality but the price:sigh:

I have tried to investigate the Peaks but it is too frustrating , you cant figure anything out from their site, it is one of the worst web sites ever.and having to call them and try to get info over the phone and use an image created over the phone to place an order leaves much to be desired. I like to see it and also I dont see much feedback about these lights anymore. They seem outdated and a bit heavy and inefficient.

Dealextreme, no thanks!! I have bought some orings and such from them but a light? Quality issues with their stuff it's hit or miss for sure. and 3 weeks shiping bites too

That Coleman looks interesting. looks a bit bulky/chunky though. would it fit in a coin pocket? whereabouts can you get those? maybe at a BandM where I can actually handle one?

Toward the bottom of this review on the LEDMuseum (http://ledmuseum.candlepower.us/fifth/peak24.htm), there are pictures of the Pacific CR2. The aluminum model is very small and depending on the model can offer excellent runtime. Also, look at the Peak SubForum...Member MWClint has put a lot of work into the Peak lineup here: http://www.candlepowerforums.com/vb/showthread.php?t=212589

Good luck!

If you mean the Coleman headlamp it is chunky/cubic. It fits nicely in my fifth pocket (the pocket of death as it doesn't get checked before the wash/dry).

You get them online from Coleman, see the link above. I don't know of anyplace where you can handle one before the purchase. It is plastic, not very heavy at all, so fall on it and it is a gonner.

I've had mine for a year and I have no complaints. Rides in the car most of the time, just in case. A headlamp that I use because it is so easy to wear, carry and have batteries on the ready-line for.

wow!!!! That was FAST🙂 . Thanx for the pic. It does seem to fill up that pocket . I will keep this little guy in mind.

The amilite Cuty in Cr2 got me a bit excited but it seems a bit big for the battery . anyone have thislight?

I will have to also vote for a Peak Pacific HP with pocket CR2 tube. That would be a nice solid performer. Just call and say "Pacific HP SSC with CR2 pocket tube" They have always been good over the phone for me.

You can find info on runtimes if you search. I believe the CR2 Pacific will run for approximately 3 - 3.5 hours at flat regualtion and put out a decent amount of light. You could also add the pocket AA tube for another 10 bucks and have a nice setup. It will run at slightly less output with an AA cell but still decent light for around 12 hours on a lithium AA cell.

As Regulator said buy a spare 1 AA body and you'll have a very versatile light.
I have never found it a problem to deal with Peak on the phone, even though I'm calling from Australia.

Price is all relative. Like carrot, at the time, my Ion was a bargain (I, too, still wear mine around my neck at home and in the car.

The Ion was based on the Larry light, which you could say was priceless, since there were only about 5 or 6 of them made and they weren't for sale. They were given away, not sold.

I remember one being auctioned on CPF for CPF. I don't remember the final price - I want to say that it was $400-500.

It seems that many of the great lights are now being made to cater to the custom crowd that can afford them and that no longer includes me. I don't blame the makers at all. It gives them a better chance to recoup and be rewarded for their efforts. It also shrinks the base of purchasers and eliminates much of the mindless picky criticism that takes place here.

All that said, I'd love to see a Liteflux, Fenix, etc. priced light modeled after the Ion size, too. Peak is not in the cards for me - they'll never see a dime of my money.

Didn't Liteflux make an LF4 that was CR2 based? Close to your price range I think.

Thanx for the links and pics all. There is always great guidance here!!!

I am gonna check out those links right now.

I think Liteflux did or still does a CR2 based light but the length was a bit much. I would just go with a AAA light like the Fenix LOD but it is just too long.

The perfect backup mini light to me wouldnt even have a reflector. it would be CR2 based and a Mule type head maybe putting out 2 levels of 10 and 50 lumens as a basic twisty maybe 2 " or less in length . I know Orb is the answer but .........

litetube, I concur also. I have posted my wishes over on the Lummi forum here http://www.candlepowerforums.com/vb/showthread.php?t=207219 hoping it will encourage development of a CR2 RAW light.

However, I am considering lining up a Aeon for my next birthday, and also have considered selling other lights to "upgrade" to the Aeon. 😗

I own both the Aeon (One of the smallest CR2 lights available) and the Arc AAA and I can tell you that despite the Arc AAA being a little longer, it's much lighter and less obtrusive in your pocket than the Aeon. The Aeon is my favorite EDC but the Arc still beats it for compactness.

Why don't you go for the DS or GS version of the ARC AAA? It's much brighter than the EO1 despite what the specs say.

Arguments for going for a CR2 light over AAA would be brightness and/or runtime but not size.

You might also want to post a "wanted to buy" ad on the CPF marketplace forum for a Luxogen LR12w (I think that's the name of it, but I'm guessing from memory). I use mine all the time. The original price was about $30, I think. It has a Luxeon III LED with a nice beam and lots of output for its size. Very high quality light and very compact. Somebody might be willing to sell theirs to you.
