will we ever get an LS based E2e killer?

Are we ever going to see an LED based E2e killer? I keep putting off buying an E2e because I'm enamored with LEDs and don't want anything that will break, but there still isn't an LED based light that fits that niche. The new Arc LS3 seems promising, but it sounds like it has a pretty spread beam and other 5W LS based lights probably will, too. Not to mention the price is a little frightening.

I really don't want to buy an incandescent light if I can help it. 1W LS lights are too dim and have wide angle beams so it seems like some kind of 5W LS based light is my only hope. Am I just dreaming to get a small, 60+ lumen LED light with an "ideal" flashlight beam and an hour+ runtime?

Don't delay any longer and get the E2E. You can't go wrong and won't be sorry. Be sure to order the optional MN02 LOLA for increased battery life.

I work with vendors and manufacturers every day. Not one of them ever delivers on-time. It's your loss if you delay.

The 5w LS certanly gives the E2 a run for it's money, ok it's green but if this gives us an idea of things to come I cant wait...

R2,

The answer to your question is a provisional yes, but how long are you willing to wait. If you want a 5W luxeon in an E2 sized package that's driven at a full 5W, I don't think this is going to happen until there is a break in technology. Get the E2E unless you don't mind being in the dark for a while.

When 5W's are in production, my guess the comparison between LED and incandesent will be between a G2Z or C2Z with P60 vs the 5W in a similar sized light.

Could the Arc LS3 would be classified as an E2 killer? We don't really know what a lumen output will be for the LS3 do we?

Lambda said he is going to make 5W pills for the E2e. They will probably be powered at less than 5W, however.

The problem is I don't think you are going to see an E2e sized 5W luxeon light that can give you a true 60 lumens for 60+ minutes and give you the throw of the E2e. The beams from each of them will deffinately look different.

As has already been said, they complement each other. An Arc LS for close up work & an E2(e) for longer range work is the plan I follow.

an "ideal" flashlight beam
<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">There's a difficult, subjective one.

For MOST tasks, the beam of an Arc LS is "ideal" for me. The E2 has an excellent beam for distance, but for up close work (most of what I do) it is far from "ideal." For comparison, I find the E1 beam even less "ideal" because of how narrow it is.

For me, the best use for narrow beams is to show people how far away you can still see the spot of light. In practice, I need to be able to actually see some things within the beam.

I do understand your question, and your point. But the "ideal" beam is so many different things to different people. I have two friends who are diametrically opposed on this issue.

My Graham friend likes the narrowest beam available, and my Don friend likes the widest flood beam possible (hey, he puts a beamshaper on the LS!). I fit somewhere in the middle. And find that an E2 and an LS compliment each other perfectly, and bracket my "ideal" beam about perfectly.

Funny - I was in the SAME position last year that you're in now. I'm glad I didn't wait. Grab yourself and E2 now... you can always slip a KL1 bezel on it later.

Yeah, what Darell said...

I carry my new E2e and Arc LS together. To me, they seem to complement each other, and are good for almost all of my uses. Plus, they're both small and use the same types of batteries. I'm thrilled with both of them. I've known about how great LEDs are for awhile now, and had lost "interest" in standard incandescants. But until I got my E2e, I had no idea that they were so small and could have such an even, unblemished beam.
