meh?
Hi there,

I have been researching the WE M90 flashlight with the upgrade kit to use 3x 18650's. My interest is in running the EO-13 lamp for 700lm.

I recently found out that a fellow member had serious heat issues running a 550lm lamp with this setup. Judging from this, I figure this will be an issue too for the 700 lamp.

I cannot use this light on duty, if this is going to be an issue.

any thoughts/insights.

tnx!

hey, if you go to PTS-flashlights or Lumen Factory's website both bulbs have a note listed in small letters stating that the bulb shouldnt be run for excessive amounts of time (aka 5 - 10 minutes) your best bet would more than likely be a HID lamp if you are looking for that kind of power and constant run times, though i find the M90 13V standard configuration to be good enough putting out around 300 - 380 lm depending on a few bulb factors and quality control. It also gives a pretty good run time of just about over an hour. sorry i dont have any good news for you but from my experience the EO-13 does heat extremely quickly also. if you do run it too long you can pop the bulb or even overheat the batteries, especially the one touching the spring of the lamp.

tnx so much for your input all!!! this all makes sense now after reading all about it. (thanks paul_from_maryland, as well :) )

The WE M90 can handle the LF EO-9L (450Lm) continuously just fine for about 45 minutes from a pair of latest AW 18650s. It's quite warm but I'd not call it hot.
The latest AW 2200mAH 18650 battery has about same capacity as the old WE 2000mAH 168A battery
The new WE 168A 2200mAH may give you better performance (>10%?) than the new AW 18650s

If this is a duty light, consider the 13V Wolf Eyes lamp.
The M90 with EO-9L gets extremely hot in less than 15 minutes, hence the 10 minute heat warning.

Paul,
This is the first such comparison I've read. Did you test them both, or was this finding posted by someone else in the Electronics/Batteries forum?
