just recieved my deft ftp. I Think OMG x10 desrcibes it best. THANKS MICHAEL For a stunning light. Nobody will be dissapointed with this thr🙂ower
Glad you like it.

Well it only took a couple of days but this nubee finally realized he had not followed the correct method in which to order a new Deft. I think I managed to get the developer an email tonight and hopefully I will be on his "nice" list. Can't wait.
Sorry about ignoring my own sales thread. Another thread has had me more than a little distracted. 😱 Thanks for your patience.

It's just a couple of days now before I'll receive my DEFT FTP! 😀😀

Michael,
I'm new to CPF and just a beginer flashaholic But I would LOVE to add the FTP to my growing collection as my long throw light. It looks fantastic!

Out of pure curiosity, how many people are on your email notification list? 😛

I am curious now that I have the light why the head is so large. Is there a specific engineering aspect that requires that size? It is definitely bright with a loooooong throw.

I never seen this on the thread but I received this reply to a question on batteries. I thought others might benefit from it.

You can use NiMH rechargeable batteries as long as they are the eneloop brand. The driver works fine with them but the NiMH batteries are in general fatter than normal AAs so most do not fit well. The Lithium rechargeable batteries cannot be used or the light will be damaged. The Energizer Ultimate Lithium batteries are not rechargeable and will work just fine. Those are what I recommend as they have the longest shelf life and the longest runtime.

The head is larger than a lot of the lights out there but it is also smaller than anything else that can throw that far. As I am attempting to explain in a thread in the general flashlight forum the diameter is necessary to retain high intensity in the beam. It needs to be that size to collect all the light. I just checked and you are right I am missing the info on the batteries. I had it in the last DEFT thread and forgot to transfer all that over. Will make the adjustment. Thanks!

Not sure exactly but it is a lot.

Send me your email address via my contact page. I will put you on an email notification list.

I've had my DEFT FTP for about a month now and have had many opportunities to use it in real world applications. It always amazes me by outperforming my expectations and bringing a smile to my face. What a great light! Thanks for making it available 🙂

I have just checked USPS's "Track & Confirm" for the package CP367193907US (my DEFT FTP), and it said that "there is no record of this item." I have also checked it yesterday and the most recent activity was that it left Chicago for international dispatch at March 7, but I have still not received the flashlight yet. Do you know what is happening? 😕 Thanks!

Call the USPS's toll free number on their website.

As I said in the email to you once it leaves USPS's hands they can no longer track it. I checked the shipping info after you emailed me and found no message of "there is no record of this item." Not saying you didn't but I don't know why they would have had that on the tracking page. I know you are worried but it is probably either in between our countries or in customs. It is insured as well so we are both covered on this either way. It is not time to worry yet. This kind of correspondence is better handled through email.😉 Thanks.

:party:My favorite customers are the ones that use them. I have the DEFT in the hands of several LEOs and all have found it useful.

Got mine about a week ago and its great, although there's not enough open space around my house to really stretch its legs. Can't wait to take it camping in a few weeks and really see what this sucker can do :naughty:

I use mine nearly every night.

During the winter months I live and work in Fl at a place that has 120ac of grass bordered by some swamp and some pine trees. Lots of wildlife to observe.....one can't use this thing just anywhere it does require open space.

Michael,
How much of a difference do plain jane Alkalines drop the output? I am getting 131,000 Lux with a 10 Meter test. Also is the black rubber retaining ring around the internal optic supposed to be attached firmly all 360 degrees around. It seems to be anchored well at two points 180 degrees apart (opposite the mount screws?)and moves in-out slightly along the other axis if you touch it lightly. I noticed it looked to be in a little crooked. I'm sure I didn't break it loose when I touched it. Thanks.

Alkalines will give you performance pretty close to the Energizer Ultimates for about 30 minutes or so. Your figures fall nicely with those found by BigC in his tests. I started gluing the optic holder in to keep it from moving. I started that halfway into the last batch so I am unclear if you are referring to the glue or the fact that the copper base will stop the holder from continuing in a downward position. I have the sides of the holder long enough to prevent the small lens from coming into contact with the LED dome. As long as it's not glued in you can pull it right out. It is pressure fit.

I think I know what you mean. The ring will push down further along two sides and 90 degrees from there it will not go down any further. It appears to have silicon all the way around, so thats why I was wondering why the pre-collimator ring was kinda springy and will push in-out along one axis. Thought maybe the glue was not holding the ring in place all the way around the circumfrence. BTW do you optimize the focus for longest range or do I need to rotate the bezel any? And someday when I mod it with a newer LED how do I get to the LED? Does the handle screw out of the head? Or do I remove the pre-collimator? Thanks.

Michael, If you don't mind me asking....how do you get 1.4 Amps from the DEFT? I'd like to mod my A9 Aspheric. I still like it, It is small, and I get 72,000 Lux with it. Tiablo claims 255 Lumens. 330 would be nice...Do you run a particular driver board to get 1.4 amps? I have a mini-lathe so I can build a custom heat sink for it. I know the origianl DEFT had a bigger heat sink and 1.6 Amps. Is that on the edge of toast?

Hey kengps, I am on the list to receive a DEFT FTP (hopefully soon???). I see you own a Tiablo A9 Aspheric as I do also. Have you compared the throw of these two flashlights together. If so, what do you think about the comparrison. I love my A9 so I'm really looking forward to owning a DEFT.:naughty:

I tested them last night....The Deft has a smaller brighter spot for sure. But I will definately keep the A9. It still does good considering how much smaller it is. I want to up the lumens to 330 from 255 though. Should put it up to 90,000-93,000 Lux. I am getting 72,000 from stock A9, 131,200 from DEFT.

What mods do you plan to attain the 330 lumens? If you are successful I and I'm sure others would like to follow suit.
