I was just thinking that it would have been nice if SureFire's Came in a hard plastic case, ala Mag AA, rather than the cardboard one they currently arrive in. IMHO

i think a nicer packaging would add to the cost, and would be unnecessary. once you start using it the box is probably going to be thrown out so the cardboard boxes are fine.

the first 6P i got and the C2 i just got, both came in plastic clamshells, very similar to the kind that maglites also come in. i believe retailers can choose what kind of packaging they wish to have. i also have seen E2s, E1s, G2s, D2s, D3s in plastic clamshells.

surefires are meant to be used, so i think packaging isn't really important as long as it protects the product during shipment

i hate the *&%# plastic! i'd rather just open a box.

I think Kev`s referring to the presentation boxes that the Sol!taire and Mini-Mang are avaliable in. Those are pretty nice, but they suit the average Mang-lite buyer more than Surefire, to me at least. Maybe the Executive series would look OK presented like that, actuallyonce upon a time it almost was - remember the shiny black boxes with the red foam inlays that the original E1s and E2s had - but I think the rest would look a bit out of place, and they`re expensive enough (and delayed enough!) without adding pricey custom presentation boxes too.

I like Surefire`s cardboard enclosures. They do the job well, are easy to open and if they havn`t been bashed by the postman, the light inside is nicely presented. No-nonsense "tactical packaging"

This reviewer hates the laser-sealed plastic clamshell packaging that a lot of lesser lights come in. If I didn`t routinely carry a multitool with a decent knife on it, I`m sure I`d still have some of those imprisoned in the plastic with no way to free them. I can`t help but moan about that in my reviews - not everyone has sharp knives or even tough scissors, so they`d be forced to hack at it with kitchen knives and risk serious injury. No light is worth risking personal injury for.....

.....well OK if I saw a brand new M6 in a tiger`s mouth I`d be tempted to reach in and grab it, or am I getting a bit silly now?

Not silly at all... The tiger had just eaten me and I was handing you an M6 to continue my work.

Thanks Chris!

I hate the clamshell plastic too. I've managed to keep all the SureFire boxes. Quite for what I'm uncertain, but I've kept them.

It would be a nice touch if the boxes came tied up with a "tactical" lace bow don't you think?

I'm off to sleep.

Stay safe!

I too have often wondered how many people have sliced themselves opening plastic clamshells (I 've come close a couple of times). I also save cardboard SureFire boxes, for reasons unknown to me at this time. Must be a fairly common symptom of the illness.

Yep..I save the cardboard boxes to!

Chris M is right I did mean the presentation case (not just evil plastic packaging!

) NOT for EDC but for storing the light in a safe way when not in use. IMHO it shouldn't put the price up...SureFires are already expensive enough to cover the costs in my opinion!

Eaten by a tiger and still able to read and post to the CPF? Gotta love that modern technology!

Made of OD green paracord of course

Another box saver here also. Especially the shiny black E2 one. Though the light itsself is well used and the tail button has worn smooth, I still keep it just in case it`s worth anything in the future. Habitual and obsessed collectors do this you see. You`ll be surprised just how much the value of an item is multiplied by when it still has the original box!

i suspect the reason surefire made their plastic clamshells so hard to open, was to prevent people in a store from swiping them. so far i've had two of the surefires i've bought come in the plastic clamshells, and opening them takes a lot of effort, and makes a lot of noise. usually i'll force my fingers in through the top of the clamshell, then rip the whole thing open by force, being careful not to send the surefire flying out at the same time

the first thought that passed my mind when i got my arc AAA was that it would be easy for someone to open the package and steal the light. not only do i keep the boxes, i keep the shrinkwrap the box came in, and the ruined clamshells

The dangerous nature of ripping SureFires out of their clamshells prompted the need for shock isolated bezels. Not a lot of people know that the highest risk to a flashlight is within the first 15 minutes of owning one.

Hi guys...

I want to give you first chance before I do a listing in the BST section...

I ALSO have saved my Surefire boxes for some unknown reason, and Ive decided to change that part of my life.

So...I`ll sell my empty Surefire boxes to the persons posting in this thread willing to pay me:

1) $3.00 per box for an E2/E2e/E1e box

2) $4.00 per box for an M2 box

3) $5.00 per box for an M3 box

4) $6.00 per box for an M6 box
(how appropriate!)

5) And finally, $10.00 per box for the scarce
10X911 box! (Again, an appropriate number)

If demand is too high, I do reserve the right to limit the quantities each person buys.

Deal of a lifetime...knock yourselves out!

I'll bet that's what also prompted the shift to Type 3 HA! Of course the manufacturers of all the upscale knives likely to be carried by CPFers responded to the challange by going to more exotic blade steels with increased Rockwell hardness ratings.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">Hi jmm...

You`re on!

First thing Monday, I`ll go to the post office and get a mint condition "USPS Priority Mail" box, and put that box into a second (but larger, of course) USPS Priority Mail box, and then send it out to you.

With your "Early Bird" discount, your cost will only be the attractive price of $20.00. (Keep in mind...the McLux is, after all, a rare limited-run flashlight!)

Please let me know!

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">I'm going to do my best to end the scarcity in this neck of the woods in the next few hours! But, if I fall asleep and awaken to find they closed down the sale after booking 15,000 orders in the first hour, I'll be after you for that box, just so I can sniff it.
