Oh yeah I was wondering about that.

How many lumen is that supposed to be?

The triple came in at 1300lm.

Yeah I think that's the number. It's fairly difficult to compare almost pure flood to a normal beam in terms of brightness.

I may pull out my Armytek Wizard Pro which is very similar in that it also has no hotspot. Output there is reported as 630 lumen so we'll see.

Hey Folks, 1st time posting here to Vinh's forum. Pretty new to the whole flashlight world and cpf, but I have a decent little collection going. Big fan of Vinh's work too, and wish I had more. I have learned quite a bit from reading all of the informative posts here on cpf so far. Figured I'd give you a little back story before asking what I'm looking for.. I am a very much an outdoorsman; I do a lot of hunting, fishing, camping, etc.. So the majority of my flashlight use is outside, away from cities and man-made light..

I have previously gotten a p60 dropin from from Vinh for lots of throw. It is an xpe2 dedome at 3A which I use in my host with a Horton aspheric lens. This light is stricly for throw. I have since ordered an XPG2 dedomed dropin from him at 4.5A to get a little better beam pattern out of the same host and lens.. As I said this one is strictly for throw and I primarily use it for distance predator hunting at night. I also have a Lightforce Enforcer with 75watt halogen bulb that I use for the same task. It has a 12 volt battery pack or can plug it into the accessory outlet in a vehicle. I also end up using this light for tracking afterwards, as you can adjust the beam, and it lights up such a big swath of ground with enough throw, its like turning on the sun in that area..

I am also a big bow hunter; so I very often have to track the game after the shot, and most of the time this is at night. I end up using a headlamp for this task as it is small enough to fit in my pocket, and allows me to use my hands for carrying my gear, etc. This light doesnt really need much throw since I only need it to light up the area directly in front of me as I am usually hunched over or sometimes on my hands and knees. For this I have ordered one of Vinh's HC90vn's which I anxiously await.

Anyways, to make a long story short, and thank you for sticking in with me so far.. I have a fenix pd35 which I got when they 1st came out sometime in late 2013. When I found out Vinh did upgrades to this light, I immediately inquired with him as to the possibility of upgrading mine. Since there are soo many upgrade options for this light, I am a little stuck on which direction to go. Plus I am a very indecisive person as it is, haha... I have read this entire thread just to get an idea of what you all have ordered and your feelings on that setup. I pretty much have my choice narrowed down to one of the triple LED upgrades, either the XP-G2 or the XPL. My question to everyone would be, having all the other lights I listed above, which setup would you go with for the pd35vn, the triple XPG2 or triple XPL? Im looking for something to kind of fill in the gap between all the other lights I have, and be more of an edc/all-around light, albeit a very intense edc light, lol. Would like it to be similar to the 75 watt enforcer, not for the throw so much, but in that it lights up such an impressive amount of area when focused out for flood, and sill maintains enough reach to see the area around you. Just in a smaller, single 18650 package...

I very much appreciate any thoughts or input you guys might have on the matter. Thanks for reading...

I ordered the Triple XPL, I actually just got it today, turned it on in a bright room, not much throw or hotspot at all, so it was difficult to compare to all my other Vinh lights and stock lights as they all have a hotspot. I knew I had to wait til nightfall to test it out. There is a field by my house that stretches out a good 4000 feet (where I go play with my K40VN hehe) anyways, I tested out the PD35VN Triple xpl vs my P12VN dedomed, I was impressed by the amount of area that it lit up. Now this is a huge field, very wide, I didn't really appreciate the light until I got home and when I say it lit up my hold entire front yard, I mean the beam is so wide, that I had my parents coming to the door to see what all the light was that was lighting up the hall inside the house. It was as if it was daylight!!! Not much throw, it'll light up a 100 yards maybe just by the sheer amount of lumens, but this is for close range. Also when using the light inside the house, my whole room is lit, now I'm looking at my Single P12VN which is my favorite (i even sleep with it beside me lol) thinking about putting it up on the shelf and going with the P35 triple XPL for my EDC. Or heck, both are compact, one in each pocket, never know what situation you may run into lol. As TY mentioned, you get hooked. I'm already looking at Vinh's list thinking about what other light to order.. Like seriously man, there's over $1500 worth of lights and batteries on my bed headrest. If I ever get robbed, hopefully they take the TV or my laptop or something. Just not my lights!! HAHAH

Ha ha that is awesome Flash!
I always like hearing stories like this.
Makes me think about when I got my stock PD35 Vinh'd.
I turned it on turbo and almost had to change my diaper :-)
I couldn't believe how much light there was.
From then it has been like a very good drug ha ha.
Congrats on the new light man!

That just doesn't sound right.

My pd35vn xpl triple is incredible. I don't know how anyone would be underwhelmed with it.

I mean, non light enthusiasts stop and say god Damn!

I know you have a lot of lights, and it's making me think something I'd wrong if this light doesn't at least impress you a bit.

1300lm wall of light is very impressive.

I don't a have that many but here's the list;
Fenix TK75, TK61, PD35vn, E05, E01, Zebra Light SC600II, SC52, H52w, Crelant V11A, Armytek Wizard Pro High CRI.

The ones that impress me the most are the TK75 and the SC52 (500 lumen on high).

Is the pd35vn your most Floody light. Because most of your others are more focused. It's hard to judge the triple because the lumen are spread out. Not concentrated into a spot that seems brighter.

That is exactly the problem. I'm concerned that I'm not comparing Apples with Microsofts.

Anyway, I'll do the bean exercise and we'll see.

I hope it's just me.

Yeah the triple is not going to hurt your eyes like a more focused light.

It dispersing it's lumens much more evenly. So in a thrower, all the lumens are in one spot, making it easier to tell the brightness.
In the triple, the lumens are spread all over. So it's not going to strain your eyes.

I think you need a "normal" edc flood light to really get the feel of how special this one is.
