X60vn 2015 - Lumen & Throw

Do we have numbers/readings for these two options? One throws more and one has more lumens, but how much compared to each other?

A) +$50 XML2 U4 for Max brightness
B) +$60 XML2 U3 PDTc for Max throw w/ cooler tint

Rough guess based on observations of the X60vn's dome on, and dome off, from Vinh's past sales... expect about 6500-7000 lumens from option A, with around 250-300kcd, and around 5500, and ~550-600kcd from option B.

You really can't go wrong with either option, and 250kcd is A LOT, more so than any person would want. It's more a question of beam preference imo. If you want more of a narrow defined beam, go for option B. If you want a somewhat less defined beam, but more spill on what you're seeing, option A would be best.

Personally PDTc, or PDTn would be my own preference, as it gives you the best of both worlds.

Thanks. Which one is the PDTn? I don't see that listed. Which one is referenced in his first post where he says 6500 lumens, I guess the factory one now that I look again?

PDTn is PDT, but neutral as opposed to cool white. Vinh offers Cool, Neutral, or Warm, as preferred dedome tint goes. Personally I'm a fan of neutral for my lights, the slight loss in lumens/throw is worth the slightly more natural color. He can make any light with the tint/temperature you prefer.

Option A would be 6500+ lumens. As far as I know, the stock models don't really ever hit 6500 lumens, only 5000 or so. Though to be honest, the difference between 5000, and 6500 is not apparent at all unless you literally have two lights side by side. So if you're going to get a modded light, get it dedomed by Vinh for the added throw.

Ah, I see. Makes sense. Guess I'll go with the neutral one as long as he's still doing these, then I just need to find a charger since my current one only handle two cells at once but that's for another forum.

My dedomed x60vn looks like daylight at noon... Not blue at all, next to the neutral k60vn dedomed I compared it with that looks like daylight about 2 hours before sunset to me.. Still plenty bright but not the same crispness. Neutral is gentle, vs what can be interpreted as offensively bright due to the lumens.

I do prefer the high noon look, it really cuts the mustard!

Both look natural if not used side by side IMO.

What was your total setup/choices if you don't mind me asking? You seem to love yours.

Did anyone measure color temperatures with cool, neutral, and warm? Might give me a better idea, I hate warm lights but too cool isn't good either, but it depends what the Temps are.

Has anyone tested the max throw or have a theoretical distance in meters it should be able to throw? If the TK75vnQ throws around 1170m from what I remember then this must be more? Mine is out for delivery today and I can't wait to get home.

EDIT: Did some quick math, not sure if it's right but based on 600kcd that would put it around 1550m of throw I guess. Looking on a map that is completely insane and I can't even believe it if it will reach that far.

Re: X60vn 2015 - Lumen & Throw

It's easiest to see those distances I found when you hold your light low so you are looking over the beam, otherwise it can nighblind you similar to high beams on a car on the fog.

This allow you to see over the top of the particles in the air and moisture it's illuminating this may sound silly and not an issue with lesser lights but these things are pretty bright

The X60vn is like a bigger version of the TK75vn. Comparing mine the X60vn definitely out floods and throws the Q. The Q in opinion is is just the right size. Not too big. The X60vn puts out more light, but the Q is more practical. My TM36vn and M25C2vnT will out throw the X60vn but only on a small peice of something in the distance. The X60vn puts out more light all way to the target. The target just not quite as bright when compared side by side. The X60vn is impressive. The Q is my favorite light but the X60vn is perfect when you want to light a large area and a target in the distance. As far as distance, 1500 meterd seems about right. It'll light further than our eyes can be used to see details.

Just got it all charged up (took about 5 hours) and tried finding a place to test it out, but I'm too afraid people will call the cops here because it's so bright 🙁 I have to admit I was a bit dumb at first and had an email ready to send to vinh saying it didn't work, but then I realized you can lock it out and he had the head unscrewed a bit.

I don't consider this that big at all, it was about the size I expected. Taking it outside on this muggy and hazy night I can see just how much further it will through than my Lambda VPT2. I can't wait to have a better night to test it, I'll try taking beamshots too if I remember the best way to do that. Wish I still lived at my parents' because they had a lot of open fields I could play around with, here there's nothing I can light up.

All in all I love the light so far.

It's hard not to be impressed by it. You charged the batteries separate right? Not thru the light?

Nope, Vinh sent me a Nitecore D4 so I put 4cells in there and the other 2 in my Pila to charge all at once.

Is the battery indicator on the light still accurate? I was a little worried because it was already starting to show as orange after not even 10 minutes total time on the highest setting. I don't see it dimming at all yet but I hope it lasts longer on high than that.

I've never paid attention to the indicator.
After running on high for a combined 14 minutes and low for 3 minutes the purple Efest 35 amp 2500mah batteries Vinh sent with the light are at 3.98V. They were topped off before hand. So I thinking 35 - 40 minutes running in high. I got some 3500 mah 18650GAs I want to test the run time on. I would the just over an hour is a good guess.

I got KeepPower 3500mah with mine, wonder how they'd compare. I don't know what the amp rating on these are or the difference in the cells I keep seeing (GA vs whatever else is out there, I think mine are GA?)

An hour would be great with me, I'm used to 20 minutes with the Lambda. Doe the light noticeably dim what it gets too low? How do I know when to charge it without checking voltage of all 6?

Sorry for noob question, I've been out of the game for awhile and I'm used to my Lambda just dimming and still having usable light until I want to charge it.

Mine turns orange pretty quick too.... Prob could be calibrated better...

But unless you have a fully charged one side by side it's tough to tell if any difference with weak batteries...

It's stinkin bright regardless... Haven't done any lux measurements though.. My eyeballs are subjective.

The GA's are Sanyo / Panasonic 18650GA they are 3500 mah hybrid battery. Unprotected, their good for 10 amps. Protected, it's limited to whatever the protection circuit can handle. Keeppower is a reputable brand so you should be good. I run unprotected in mine but I constantly check voltage. The best thing to do us run it and check voltage every 10 minutes and then once at 3.7v, check every two minutes. I run my batteries only to 3.4v before swapping. But I try to really never get below 3.6v. To each their own. Just the lower you run it, the less cycles you'll get.
