I know that some of, if not all of this has been talked about before.
But I couldnt seem to find the exact info I was wanting in all the other threads.

The X990 is rated for 70 minutes runtime. Is this true in the real world? Does it dim over time? Or is it regulated like some HID lights,,, and will be pretty much full brightness till the end? Has anyone ran one dead?

Secondly, whats the beam tightness like compared to other lights? I want a MONSTER THROWER. This lights main purpose would be BRIGHT light real far away. Is the X990 a good choice for this? Or is its beam not very tight?

Thanks

I don't know if it's actually regulated or not, but mine seems to maintain its full brightness for over 1 hour, so 70 minutes is obtainable. The light does not seem to dim, it just goes out or sometimes it will flicker to tell you the battery is ready to be recharged.

This light is very very bright. It always amazes me when I use it. I had it out along with my Tigerlight the other night. On it's own the tiger is very bright, but after using the 990 the tiger looked like a aa mini mag with 1/2 dead batteries! I actually thought my Tiger needed to be recharged, but it didn't. And throw, yeah man it throws. If this light doesn't satisfy your bright flashlight needs you really have lighting issues. --Tim

I assume it's regulated in a sense, since if it's not "arcing" it's not producing light, in which case it dies. Throw is going to be very good, die to the small focal spot.

Hello Jtice,

I am getting just over 70 minutes on both of my battery packs. When the light dies, it appears to be the same brightness as when it first started. It does not dim down as the battery runs down. With that said, I did notice a little drop in brightness on the light meter, however it is not noticeable to your eyes.

Tightness of the beam can best be illustrated in the superlights beam shots and comparisons done by Kenshiro. It was mentioned that the tightest beam of the 990 is wider than the flood mode in several of the other lights. This is not a pencil beam, but it does throw a reasonable beam a good distance.

Did I mention that it is also very bright?

Tom

It is definitely not a pencil spot, but the sheer amount of light it does put out gives it tons of throw.
I have 3 other spot lights that range from 1-2 MCP claims and the 990 makes them look like off the shelf 2D flashlights when compared side by side...
The best comment I got on the light was when I pointed it at the ground directly in front of myself and a friend of mine who quickly commented that the spot resembled to him a giant 6 foot magnifying glass focusing the sun down to a spot at night. (with out the sun of course /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif)
I would think you could light up the call numbers off the bottom of a low flying Cessna if you had the opportunity.

And I'm with SilverFox:
