Xenon in Maglite, help needed

Hi,
I want to put a car xenon lamp in a maglite.
Does anyone ever tried this?
If so do you have suggestions what to use,
mag 3,4 ,5 or 6?
What kind of reflector.
Wich xenon, H3,4??
Batteries???
etc etc.
Ive done LED mod's. P7, 4xP4. 3xp4 etc etc.
But now im curious what xenon does
So if anyone can help me......

You will also need to fit in a igniter and a ballast.
A automotive igniter and ballast will not fit.

Komt ook overal Nederlanders tegen he
Klopt van die balast mara die wilde ik eventueel aan de buitenkant maken.
Mooi is anders maar weet neit of er alternatieven zijn.
Xenon lijkt me wel wat licht geven. Heb nu al 4 led mod's gedaan..
Toevallig ergens zo'n mag gezien??

The response seems to suggest that by "car Xenon" we mean "HID" - is that right?

If so, I have seen commercial Maglite-sized HID torches, so I would have thought it is theoretically possible...

I did not know he meant rebased HID lamps. I naturally replied to his PM thinking of halogen automotive lamps since everyone tends to call them xenon these days.

If you use 35W automotive based HID lamps you will need to find a suitable ballast to fit in a Mag which I do not know of any. Even to use a 10W Solarc ballast in a Mag the body needs to be bored out. I've seen small 35W ballasts but nothing nearly small enough or the right shape to fit in a Mag.

No i really mean Xenon bulbs that are used in car's.
The ballast will be to big to fit the maglite i think but i have to find a way to attach it maybe.

Im talking about XENON car light, that is HID ist it?

Absolutely NOT.

Xenon refers to a Xenon-filled incandescent bulb.

HID is a ballast-driven discharge bulb.

It would be really helpful to know which we are talking about.

The XENARC® gas discharge lamp does not have a filament.
Instead an arc is created between two electrodes in a quartz
bulb, which is filled with xenon gas and metallic salts. The
lamp ignites when high voltage is applied. Igniting, heating
and stabilizing the arc of a XENARC® lamp requires electronic
control gear. The system consists of an electronic
igniter and an electronic ballast unit.

This is directly copied out of the automotive data sheet of Osram.

With us here in The Netherlands if we talk about Xenon we mean HID.
But a HID can also be for instance a metal-halide bulb wich doesnt use Xenon gas but uses a mixture of argon and mercury gas.

Well there was a 45w HID Maglite mod around here(search) but I remember it being pretty complicated.

A Maglite with a automotive ballast strapped to it can be pretty ugly and might not be that easy to use. A smaller "XX million CP" light might be easier to do.

There are Maglite sized HID lights up to 35 watt but I don't know where they get their ballasts from.

If you really want HID Maglite, it seems like the 10w one(Solar Arc?) might be the best starting point.

I have to be honest that I haven't read this thread yet, but I thought I'd respond to your last post over in the HID section.

Anyhow, yes...I'm sure fixmaster. Many incandescent bulbs are also filled with Xenon gas and the automotive world mainly jumped on to that terminology because it was a nifty marketing word. The technology is "HID" which like other types of bulbs also contains a mix of Xenon gas but Xenon is not exclusive to HID.
