Xeray 50W questions

Just to help my curiousity. I have several questions on this light.

At 50 watts or below, is there any other light can out throw the Xeray?

If I happen to find a used one, what should I be concerned with as far as functionality? Should I stick to finding one with a battery no longer than "X" months/years old etc.?

Were there different versions/upgrades of this light in the 50W model?

Do POB safety tips apply to this light also? IE, don't turn it on and off rapidly, let it run for at least a minute+ before turning it off etc.

Does Xeray ever offer any discounts/sales on their lights? Possibly a CPF discount?

In it's price range can any other light out throw it regardless of wattage?

I'm sure I'll have more questions but I appreciate any opinions pro/con on this light. Sure, like everyone else, I'd love a Polarion but don't know if I can justify the price in order to get a smaller frame light, we'll see.

Thanks in advance.
Bob

I don't know much about the Xeray, but I'll try to help out.

I believe there are a few, I just can't think of any at the moment.

Batteries are a big concern. After prolonged non-use (by prolonged I mean 6-12 months) batteries do lose their life. If the battery was periodically charged and discharged once every month or so it should be fine. If it hasn't been charged for more than a few months, I'd take it with a grain of salt. I'm sure others will chime in on this.

Generally most HIDs follow this rule of thumb, but some HIDs make an exception. From the initial "strike" (the moment you power the light on) HIDs can take anywhere from 15-20 seconds to to warm up to full brightness. Some will take up to 60 seconds! Some HIDs (like Polarion) have an "instant strike" feature, where it only takes 6s seconds to get the light to full brightness. From there it has a "hot re-strike" feature, where you can turn the light on/off as many times as you like.

Here's a video from Polarion:

I do know Xeray's owner is a CPF member, I just can't remember his username at the moment. Ask him and I'm sure he can answer any questions you have about the light.

As far as I know it's a great light, but like most high-grade HIDs they can be very expensive (easily a few grand).

Again I'm not too knowledgeable on the Xeray, I'm sure the folks with actual hands-on experience will share their opinions very soon. Hope this helps!

If I buy the 50W, is the DL50 bulb still the way to go? Is it that much better than the stock GE bulb? I'm still looking at all the links that LuxLuthor posted. Is this question covered in there somewhere?
Thanks.

There's a bulb on Ebay, item #120339066393, that's labeled a Philips DL50 Fatboy. Would this bulb fit in the 50W?

One of the bulbs (3rd photo left side bulb) is leaning looks like it may be broken at the base of the glass where the metal support is. Could be the camera angle.

Yes it is covered in there. People have done shootouts with default 50W bulb, and Fatboy.
