Before i start, please excuse my lack of knowledge on HID lights.

I have come to these forums for some advice. Im interested in buying a 50watt HID xeray light. I have used a few halogen lights but they never give me good runtimes, in fact the light goes very dim before the giving runtime is past. which is so annoying. So I heard that HID lights are different? Their brightness will be the same all through the runtime? This sounds too good to be true. I am willing to spend the money on a xeray if thats the case, & those xeray lights give impressive runtime.

please reply with some advice :p

On all the HID's I've owned and currently own, none dim over the battery life. They flicker and die within a few seconds or just go out without a flicker but are as bright when they go out as they were when first started. Think of the ballast as sort of a regulator circuit. It provides the lamp "X" amount of constant power over the life of the battery. When there's not enough power left in the battery to continue at this same level, the ballast shuts down. This is a crude description, others could give you a more technical explanation.

The Xeray is an excellent, excellent 50 Watt HID light in a small, light weight package. You can't go wrong. The Helios is also an excellent, excellent 40 watt HID with not quite as many Lumens (but to my eye, very, very close) but to me, looks much nicer than the Xeray. However its price is considerably higher.

If you're looking for a 30 Watt HID "work light" that you can throw around and not worry about it getting beat up and it keeps on tickin.....I mean working, the Amondotech N30 is a great bargain at $149. (batteryjunction.com - search N30. It's on special. Looks like the price will go up to $200) It is a very bright light for the money. It's only 4 lbs. Some members don't like its appearance. Do a search, lots of info, beamshots and write-ups.

Welcome to the wonderful world of HID. It is my favorite flashlight technology. Don't worry about a lack of knowledge. All of us were there at one time. That's why we're here, to learn.

ty so much for replying.

HID lights are so much better then halogen. I think ill go with the 35watt xeray, it has huge runtime :) Just what I need for going away, not too worried about the looks, just as long as it delivers on its runtime. I'm so sick of my halogen light :(

BTW, I live outside of north america, will I be okay for using this light, ie: charging it from power supply?

My Xeray charger is good for 100-240 Volts, 50/60 Hz. You may need to get an adapter for the physical different plug configuration as its U.S. style
