XM18vn Project DONE DONE DONE

Candle Power Flashlight Forum

Help Support CPF:

To get 600k Lux he'll need 33k per reflector which seems extremely doable just by overdriving them but ESPECIALLY if he de-domes them all.

Will you be swapping emitters or are they already XM-L2's?

Re: XM18vn Project

Oh ok, so now we just add the lux of each emitter together? Im just going to duck tape 2 k40's together i have a 800k+ super thrower!

Well I suppose I could be wrong but I figured if you had two of the exact same light and shined them at the same object, the measured LUX on that object would double...is that wrong?

Re: XM18vn Project

I guess i am thinking that they are shining in the same "direction" but not on the same "spot" parallel lines vs (hate to use this word but all i can think of) "collimated" lines. Im sure with the reflector angle most of them will overlap though. I see your point, sorry if that sounded like a stab TT

Re: XM18vn Project

All 18 reflector will have an area of overlap in the beam. This point of overlap create a perfect round and focus hot spot with the intensity added. Of course the focus and intensity of the overlap is less ideal as the reflectors spread out more but it's still good. From the beamshots u can see the Xm18 throw close to a TN31vn already so getting it to 600K to 800K is not impossible.

Re: XM18vn Project

You always said you wanted to work on the XM18.
Be careful of what you wish for!

Good Luck

Re: XM18vn Project

Just sucessfully dedome 18 LEDs. A MUCH HARDER task than I thought it would be. Now I am boosting the current. I wont knwo ho much current I am boosting as I cant measure the factory but it's getting a healthy boost for sure! 🙂

Wow Vinh. Can't wait to see the new beam shots! Can you buy another one and then post side by side pics of the stock version next to your modded version in a large field? Thanks.

LOL

This is the most stresseful project of all time. Centering 18 LEDs at once is no joke! LOL

Haha, that sounds like a good idea. It would be fun to play with!!! But at only an hour of run time on high then 13 hours to charge it (can't switch out the batteries and can't turn it on while plugged in), I can't really see any real world use for it. The medium output is 3000 for 5 hours, but you have made much easier to carry lights that can put out those lumes, and you can pop in new batteries when needed.

You dont reason with the XM18. And you especially don't reason with the XM18vn! The penalty is :poof:
