Re: XPG modules plus SST-50 -90 & MCE/P7 P60 dropin Modules for Sf product (part 4)

Hi Dave,
Sorry, I meant to ask about the possibility of a single level, regulated dropin at 1.4A. Not a 3 speed version.

With regards to the type of beam, I'm looking for, in order of importance, 1) longest throwing spot 2) most lumens given the 1.4A drive 3) good beam characteristics in case I'm pressed into using the light for short range stuff.

Seems like the XR-E R2 will give the best throw, but the XP-G wins in the output department. Need to search for some beamshots.

Thanks!

Hi

Yes I have a one level at that amperage.

I think you would be happy with the XP-G as it has good combination of throw and spill and is still bright.

Re: XPG modules plus SST-50 -90 & MCE/P7 P60 dropin Modules for Sf product (part 4)

Hi
The MCE doesn't have rings but it will have a muted 4 leaf clover in the middle. Any quad will still have that. I don't have any numbers for lux increase but to my eye I can see a reduction in width of beam and to me a longer throw. Maybe not scientific but I do see alot of beams and have certain distance points I use for reference and I see a difference.

I know you like fairly nice beams so even with a 17670 for power I think a SST 50 does well in the turbo C head adn is a contender. The 90 even though a single die has some slight clutter in the middle that is not noticed in the 50 and no rings with the fifty. That is if you are looking for a super bright.

I think the XPG and warm diamond dragon I just tried also look good in it with few if any rings.

An 18650 give more run time but I dont' see it as any better choice other than that.

Great. The SST-50 drop-in sounds like the way to go with the FM Deep Turbo C Head. Am I correct in understanding the following options/specs:

- Single mode, 2.8A 7135-based driver
- 3- or 5-mode 2.5A 7135-based driver
- SST-50 GJ100 kit, which corresponds to WJ flux bin (500 emitter lumens at 1.75A) and chromaticity bins F4, F3, G4, G3, EF, DG, DE, and DF

How does the multimode user interface work? Can I lock the driver into a given mode (let's say Max mode) and thus always get that specific mode, regardless of time interval between tail button presses? And then execute some sequence of button presses to change modes and lock in that mode instead?

How close would you say the GJ100 kit comes to something like a Seoul P4 SWO or SVN tint? Or alternatively, if you have any higher CRI or warmer tint SST-50s, I would be interested in those.

With the FM head, do you envision any heat issues that would prevent running at full power (either 2.8A or 2.5A) for extended periods of time? Host body would be either a 6P with 1x17670, FM 6P clone with 1x18650, or possibly FM 1xIMR26500.

Any beamshots using a stock SureFire (or clone) 6P bezel vs FM Deep Turbo C Head for the SST-50 drop-in?

Please send a PM with SST-50 pricing.

Thanks.

Dave, received my RED XP-E drop in today.
It's just what I hoped it would be. I particularly like the reflector/led fit too.
Thanks again

Hi
I have a question regarding the three mode regulated driver for the SST-50 drop-in with 2.5 amp on high for 1x18650 cell

I do need a IMR 18650 for this - do i?
Does the driver have a low voltage protection, if not how do i see that i don*t over discharge my IMR? WHat i know do AW's IMR cells not have any pcb's or low voltage auto cut-off.....

... just this one question....standing standby to order....

Re: XPG modules plus SST-50 -90 & MCE/P7 P60 dropin Modules for Sf product (part 4)

Many thanks for the quality of work on my SST-50 drop in. I'm using it with one AW 18650 protected cell. It works flawlessly. Now I just have to install my clicky switch upgrade in the Z41 tailcap and I'm all set.

Nailbender - sent you a PM regarding an SST-50 and an XP-G!

That regulated module will work just fine with a standard protected 18650.
An IMR 18650 has more "available" amps, but will give you much less runtime.

Where IMR cells excel is in high current applications like "hotwire" incandescents and the direct drive versions of nailbender's LED modules. Also because of IMR 16340s, you can now use high-powered lamp assemblies (like the one you're interested in) in single cell hosts, like a SolarForce L2m, UltraFire 501A, or SureFire 3P.

you are correct except I only have a 3 mode 2.5 amp drive. The 5 mode is a direct drive model.

How does the multimode user interface work? Can I lock the driver into a given mode (let's say Max mode) and thus always get that specific mode, regardless of time interval between tail button presses? And then execute some sequence of button presses to change modes and lock in that mode instead?

I might have one or two 5700k leds all the rest are GJ 100 I don't have any of the lower bins (4500K) as they right now are lower brightness levels

With the FM head, do you envision any heat issues that would prevent running at full power (either 2.8A or 2.5A) for extended periods of time? Host body would be either a 6P with 1x17670, FM 6P clone with 1x18650, or possibly FM 1xIMR26500.

The only time you might have heat issues would be in a 6P with CR123 but of the configs listed I seldom have trouble running for extended periods of time

Thanks for catching that for me, Naked2 has it nailed.

Also the regulated does blink if I remember right when batts are low but I have never had a problem knowing when to recharge. Even when running direct drive you know pretty quick when its time to recharge.

Re: XPG modules plus SST-50 -90 & MCE/P7 P60 dropin Modules for Sf product (part 4)

Well I received my drop in yesterday. The XP-G R4 3 mode. I am very happy with it and I can't believe the output from this tiny led. I am using it in my FM/Nite 2x18650 host. While its not as bright as my P7 Mags it can definately keep up. The beam is flawless and has no rings or clutter despite that my reflector actually came with what appears to be some lint or other debris imbedded under the reflective coating right next to the emmiter itself. Being a perfectionist this would normally bother me, but having the sweet beam that this one has its not a problem. I am looking forward to recieving my SST-90 and ordering a few more as my light collection grows. A+++++
Thanks for the great dropin and great customer service.
😀

Hi Dave, Have you tried out the 940 nm P60's you sell? I am tired of buying IR LED's that advertise 900+ nm but are actually lower...and thus visible to the naked eye. I want an honest 900+ nm that is invisible in the dark without NV gear. (I have Gen 3) Thanks. kengps

Dave, any chance you can build (or have) an SST-50 with the ability to switch from DD to regulated? I want DD sometimes, but would like a 2.5 amp regulated mode as well.

Hi

I have true 940 nm IR from osram,
I have platinum dragon 940 nm for $45 which replaced the golden dragon in July.

I also have the new 6die osram ostar 940nm which runs at 9 plus volts and is super super bright since it is a 6die led. The price is $110

I just sent 12 of these Ostars to a member who uses them. He and others use the 850 nm with their Gen 3 as they say they are brighter but you are right they do show a small amount of visible light.

The 940 nm is much less visible light and Osram is as dependable manufacturer out there. I carry both of the wavelengths.

I have never heard of such a beast, sorry. I would not even know how one would switch something like this.

I have 2.5 amp and I have direct drive but not a combo.

I have heard of some drivers going DD if too high or too low of voltage for the driver to run in regulation but never one you could switch.
