Thought was time for getting a 18650 flashlight so bought 3 Eagletac 3100mAh and a Xtar WP2II.

The thing don't works at all: with any of the batteries it just alternates from red / green every few seconds. 🤢

Tried 0.5A and 1A withour any diference.

The never used 18650s measure around 3.8V.

Don't feel very lucky...

I have that charger too, I'm pretty sure it is killing my cells by overcharging.

It sounds like yours is malfunctioning all together, or maybe the positive end of the battery is not making good contact.

Using the good idea from Jonny I tried to improve contact using paper clips, even if contact seemed good.

And it helped, it charged now until 4.0V.

I remove them and put again and one continued to recharge but the other showed green.

Now I put 1 clip at each end and it's recharging again... :scowl:

NOT GOOD!

I'm charging a set of brand new EagleTac 3100 today as well. How long does it normally take to charge two freshly shipped or (say) depleted to 3.7 batteries at the 1A setting? Thanks.

Freshly shipped 3100mAh batteries should be around 3.65V, which is 40% charge. It'll take 2-3 hours to charge them fully from that SOC.

I have the Xtar WP2II. It charges my Eagletac 3100mah 18650 just fine.

I just charged a three year old AW 18650, it has been sitting for a while and is still reading 4.21 volts. This same cell would come off the crappy Ultrafire around 4.17 or lower.
Are you sure your DMM is precisely calibrated, and has enough accuracy? Most meters are +-1% which means 4.21V reading means anywhere between 4.17V and 4.25V.

Thanks Shadoww. I'm relatively new to this insanity. 🙂 my Xtar WP2 is making me a little crazy, as I charged those new Eagletacs for 3.5 hours and the indicator never went green. My ancient analog multimeter showed the cells at 4.0 however. I'm either: A) impatient with the charger. (Wait longer) Or B) in possession of a faulty pice of hardware.

I will run down these cells a bit and give the charger a scond chance!
