just thinking about the possibilities i thought it would be neat to have a TRUE multi purpose light

If you have the money and need enough of them, i'm sure almost anything is possible.... It would be QUITE expensive to have them custom design you an LED like that. Not impossible, but expensive i'm sure. They would also probalby want 1000 or 10,000 as the min order quantity.

Thats if they would even do it. LOL

The combinations and permutations will be endless. We may see a few basic ones that makes business sence to them.

Are we talking flashlight sales, or fixed lighting applications?

If it's the former, I dare say there isn't a single engineer at Cree that cares. If it's the later, I do see a potential for mixing warm white / neutral white, or neutral white plus amber which will yield a higher CRI. That emitter would then shift over into the flashlight arena and likely be quite popular.

Sorry, but UV is for very specialized applications, and would either be very expensive, or have very limited production runs, or both.

Again with the dirty tease posts. 4Sevens posted one a couple of days ago. I know you can't tell us much but can you give us a company name and an approximately when this press release will be? Days? Weeks? Months?

maybe my memory is playing tricks with me but i thought there was a member here at cpf affiliated or knows someone at cree so i figure they do know whats up

I know that 4Sevens and csshih both know what is up but they can't say because Cree made them sign or agree to a non-disclosure agreement (NDA) so they can't say anything.

urp.. my comment was in regards to whether cree cares about the flashlight industry or not.. not regarding any custom LEDs. (hey look.. 47s got R5 bins)

sorry for the misunderstanding.

oh, and note: I'm not of legal age to sign NDAs yet.

You might consider to visit the web site for LEDEngin, which already makes some of what you have posted.

There are actually a number of packagers out there that will make up any number of custom packages with "brand XYX of our choosing" LED die.

Mixed die packages are already pretty common - just go to an LED or LED packaging trade show.

see , cree knows whats going on

"Cree's XLamp XP-G cool white LEDs set a new standard for LED performance," said David Chow, president, 4Sevens, LLC. "For our flashlights, the XLamp XP-G LED was a clear choice because of its high lumen output, unmatched efficacy and compact package size
