Two incredible flashlites, even more spectacular photography. Anyone who ends up with either of these will be very lucky. Good luck with the sale.

curious as to what type of beam the ostar would have

Hi ftumch,

The beam from the Ostar is smooth with a good focus and with wide side spill.

Hello Britelumens,

Am I correct in thinking that the Welch Allen setup uses the new WA hid ballast-bulb? If so, how is it mounted in the body? Does the light get hot? What is the runtime?

bill

Hi Bill,

Yes, the latest Welch Allyn NGX ballast and bulb ( non envelope ) are use in this setup. The host is bored to accommodate the ballast and it run cool. For the runtime, it using 3 x 17670 hence giving about the same like the 10W ( 40+ minutes ). But it input voltage can be step up by using several RCR123 and dummy to get the 1000+ lumens output as it rated at 14W.

A few questions Re: Ostar Mag...

1) any beamshots
2) any photos of the heatsink (just being curious)
3) do you ship internationally
4) do you accept CC-funded PayPal?

Thanks!

Hi orcinus,

Here is your answer to your few questions:

1) Indoor beamshot of the smooth Ostar @ approx 2 meters

orbs.jpg

2) Heat-sink is similar to those beefy custom heat-sink that was used for my earlier D2DIM build except bigger pedestal to hold the Ostar

3) Shipping is Worldwide

4) Not a problem

p/s: Highest output from the MaxFlex on the Ostar is really bright!

Is the 14W HID still available and does it include the battery holder?

Hi dinokay,

The light has been sold. If you want, I could build you a similiar with a MIL SPEC HA III 1.25D

But I do not have a 17670 battery holder for that.
