I make a list for my wife each year. I select items in a range of prices, and nothing overly expensive unless it's something I really want and would buy for myself eventually.
I also put website links and approximate prices on there so she knows how much an item should cost and where to look for it. This year most if not all of the items on my list could be bought over the internet so her shopping was simplified greatly.
