Osram Opto Semiconductors has revealed details and perforamnce data for its most advanced Thin Film chip technology.

Osram Opto Semiconductors has developed an advanced version of its thin-film LED chip technology which has already been incorporated into several advanced device-level products. In late November, Osram unveiled new Power TopLED packages available at two brightness levels and in a new range of colors. The orange Power TopLED, for example, is available in two versions with fluxes of 3 lm or 7 lm, at an operating current of 50 mA.

Future is Bright.. is all that i can say :)

The devices produce a typical luminous flux of 64 lm from an operating current of 500 mA, compared with 40 lm for the previous version, and have a forward voltage which has been reduced from 3.8 V to 3.2 V.

3.2V * 500mA = 1.6W

64lm/1.6W= 40lm/W

That is a tremdous improvement for them, their old device was 21lm/W. I wonder how long it will be until you can order them.
