L1 head on single cr123 or R123

Hi I've got an old style L1 and would like to run the head on a Aleph 1x123 Body, with 2 stage tail cap, has any one experiance of doing this, particularly with rechargables. I'm sure i will change the L1 head for a KL1 or KL4 head at some point but thought that getting the Aleph set up first was a good start.

do i need to be careful with the resistor value?, If I want to run the KL1 or KL4 head in the future

The L1 is a "dumb" head- the electronics are in the light's body. What you describe makes a nice package. The E1-body one has a TxxJ green LED and the Aleph body has a TW0J/ 30 Ohm. Both have McR20 reflectors and are DD on R123s.

Thanks that's very useful and some nice pics too,, but given your heads are modified do you still think the standard version would be OK on recharables?

Hi Mark,

The early L1s used a low dome, 1W LED with the NX-05 optic. Whether yours will survive on an R123 will depend on the LED's Vf. :shrug: Fortunately, It's a relatively easy to do a LED transplant.
