Lithium batteries would damage a Surge. Why?

Hello fellows: I'm new here. I just bought a
Surge online from Brightguy and happened to
notice a footnote whereas lithium batteries
could damage the bulb. Volts is volts......
so where can the potential harm be?
Many thanks.

Volts are volts, but all batteries are not created equal, voltage-wise. Lithium AA cells typically start with somewhat higher voltage than the nominal 1.5 volts the cell is "supposed" to produce. They also don't "sag" (drop voltage) as quickly or as much under load. If the bulb is actually designed to withstand typical alkaline voltage, then it will be receiving more than designed for with lithiums. This effect may be trivial with single-cell or dual-cell lights, but once the 4 cell level is reached it starts to get into the realm where bulb life could be shortened considerably. Hope this helps...it's the best explanation I can give without going "techno".

To follow up on Tesla's post, I tried lithiums 3 times in my Surge. The first time the bulb lasted about a half hour. The second time it blew almost immediately. The third time it blew after 17 minutes. The fourth time.............

Thanks for the education guys. I would like to
hear the tech version too if you have the time
sometimes.
I did read where the Surge in particular will
drop from around 6.5 volts to 5.5 volts within the first 10 minutes.
Whereas the lithiums would hang in there
much longer.

Brightnorm: The third time was NOT a charm in
your case huh?
Good luck
