Just curious about the wording "with up to 1000 Lumens." Marketing ploy? I don't know. . .Wait to see if someone does a T&E on it.

Imagine though, if this really lives up to what the company states, one could have in their possession a one-thousand lumen Maglite in 2D cell form factor. That would be something to behold.

the price is not bad however unless there are 80LUM/W LED's we do not know about i very much doubt their 1000LUM claims as it is stated that it consumes near 12W.
it would be great news if true though.

your car headlight is around 1100-1300 lumens, i doubt that little bulb could put out that much light

Did anyone else react on this little line?
"Light lumens (LUX) are generated electr..."
Last time I checked lumens and lux were two different things. Or have I completely misunderstood that?

From the bottom of the advertising page:

" Exposure to light frequencies, even for a brief period, can damage your eyes."

???

It's also known that breathing always leads to death.

Where does the 1000 lumens claim appear? At the site listed in the specs it says: 3 x White = 175 lumen / 3 x Red = 160 lumen.

I love to pick apart advertising copy. One of my favorites is for any of a dozen drugs available where the list one of the side effects as "death".

Death is NOT a SIDE EFFECT!

This is a error of the original posting on the CSI website. The 1000 lumen remark was meant to convey that a overdriven 1000 lumen bulb could be special ordered from Neutek-USA if there was demand for it.

The best bulb they have in stock at the moment is the 350 lumen WW Model:
http://www.circuitspecialists.com/prod.itml/icOid/8763

It should be noted that these bulbs produce a fairly wide patern at approx 120 degrees, and when compared to the standard incandecent bulb when focused to that width the difference is night and day.

Sure, you could make a bulb using 6, 5W parts to get to the 1000 lumen range, but it would require the 6 D cell mag frame running NiMH batteries to sustain the 35W of power needed to run it, be cost prohibitave and it would be like running a 35W 3 foot long soldering Iron that would sink about 4 to 6 watts of heat to your hand when the unit is at operating tempreture.

Indeed, 1000 lumens in a Mag mean:

- overdriven leds;
- very much heat which cannot be dissipated by the Mag which is not designed for that;
- some flux lost by the poor quality of the small reflector of each led.

So: the leds will be less luminous after a few minutes (they will loose a strong part of efficiency, because led efficiency decreases while heat increases). After a few hours with such high stress, their life duration won't be the best...
