Because New Year's fell on a weekend, Gov. and businesses recognize Monday as the holiday. Don't ask me why, its just the way they do it.

The holidays always mess up my sense of days. Sunday felt like a Saturday.
I was watching the Rose Parade and Bob Eubanks (who still looks and sounds great for his age!) said that the reason they held the parade today is because of an agreement with the churches on Colorado Boulevard. The agreement which dates back to the early 1900s states that the parade would never be held on a Sunday because it would scare the horses that were tied up at the churches!
