I just recently came across this site in my search to build a better bike light. I have already ordered some Lux III leds and some reflectors to play around with. And I should be starting up with some machining classes with in 2weeks so i can get the skills i need to machine my parts. My main concern is in the electircal department. I understand the basics, but I am kinda having a hard time understanding things like drivers, their purpose, and how hard and long i can run the leds. I have been poking around for a bit, but have yet to obtain a clear understanding of them. My father-in-law is a computer engineer and builds all kinds of metal detectors and electrical devices, so i am sure he could help, but I am looking to design and build it as much as i can by myself. Is the a good starting point, things i should know, general rules for led lights? Sorry for my noobness on this one, but i am just struggling a bit.
thanks

I just got into these lights not long ago and have learned so much by spending hours reading through CPF. One of the first sites I bookmarked was this one:

http://www.all-science-fair-projects.com/science_fair_projects/89/419/f31954283b4f4d4d6af02c0f46a7a777.html

If you don't want to bust out the calculator to find resistance values then use this:

http://www.csgnetwork.com/ledsingresistancecalc.html

I always find myself coming back to this page for acronyms:

http://ledmuseum.home.att.net/acronyms.htm

Good luck with your build and welcome to CPF!
