What is about the best 5 watt led that is compact for the $?

Perhaps the Nuwai TM301X-5 for around 65.00. Remember though, that a real compact Lux V will get very hot fast. Don't forget the G&P 5w drop in if you have a SF around.

cr123s get expensive, so any light that uses them, isn't really going to be cheap to operate in the long run.

Definately a Quicksilver V ($~60) running 18650's ($~20 w/charger).

not the cheapest, but still the best value for the $$

used Surefire L4's in mint condition come up all the time on b/s/t for aprox. $120

find an L4 with light wear for aprox. $95.
will beat the pants off of those $60 lights for value.

The L4 was one of the best lights i ever had...

I have a L5 as well so i thought i'd give the L4 to my brother.... Boy do i regeret that now...:sigh:

Been meaning to get another one sometime soon..
