Very accurate. I've seen that some guys on the net can be quite rude to folks just because they're women.

Matter of fact, I saw on one site where a longtime poster came out as a woman, and several folks piled on. What's up with that?

These online forums allow us to interact with people without knowing their age or gender, which makes things very interesting sometimes. I am sure there are many people on CPF that exchange pm's or postings without ever realizing that they have a gender difference, or a major difference in age (40 years or more).

There are at least a couple of people here on CPF that prefer to keep their gender hidden for that exact reason: so they don't get "piled on".
I know one person in specific (yes, I even sent her a Christmas card last year), but her gender is "our dirty little secret" so to speak.

One of the nicer aspects of the Internet and groups like this in particular is that many of the things that are offered here are innately gender-less. Stripped of the physical baggage of shape, status, race, age or even gender, the conversations take on a "higher, purer" form - it's as if we're communicating directly with each other's souls.

This is an experience that we get to enjoy far too infrequently in real life. We catch a glimpse of it around the holidays perhaps, and we wind up wondering why it can't be like that all year, that openness and lightness of spirit. Sometimes we catch a fleeting glimpse of it at a family gathering, a wedding or a funeral, then we trudge relucantly back into real life to face the familiar and colder world of our day to day activities. We get lost in the busy-ness of everyday life and forget about those shining, crystalline moments until one surprises us and uplifts us once again.

This forum is one of those glimpses. Thank goodness it's not a fleeting one. I thoroughly enjoy reading everyone's posts here and sensing the comraderie that exists between young and old, male and female, healthy and infirm. Everyone has something useful to share here, unencumbered by the physical trappings of daily life. Even gender.

PhotonWrangler,

:wow: You are so insightful and expressed those ideas so well. I feel the same way, but could never have written it so clearly. Thanks for sharing.

 Thanks for the kind words, LouRoy and Pydpiper and CajunBabe. I really feel that we have something special here, something that transcends the physical world. There's a lot more behind the words here than just the phosphors on this piece of glass (clink, clink).

right behind you. LOOK!
One of the nice (or strange) things about being semi-anonymous on this site is that nobody comes with any baggage or preconceived ideas. Nobody knows or cares if you are
male/female/trans
red/orange/yellow/green/blue/violet/black/white/etc
gay/bi/straight
christian/muslim/jew/buddist/wiccan/etc
republican/democrat/independant/socialist/etc
short/tall/thin/pudgy/gorgeous/fugly/bald/etc

If you are honest and kind to others you will be welcomed here. If you are not you will be decended upon by sharks in a feeding frenzy.

I used to go to CPFU. I stopped. I found that some folks there DID care about the above differences. Not a whole lot of CPF, just a lot of FU. Its ok if you are into that, I guess.

We come here because we all have something in common.
We all want a $10 hand held 5 megawatt laser that runs on earwax, or a keyring flashlight that is as big-around as a paperclip, weighs 0.005 mg and can blind satellites in orbit.

I used to tease people on IRC that I was a trained parrot pecking at seeds on the keyboard.

And that is great, because now people cant favor others for their race, age, gender, etc. For example, if a poster says that he is eleven years old, he will not get as much respect from people because kids ofter dont get as much respect. By the way, that was just an example... I am not eleven :)
