If that really was all he ate, I'm surprised it took that long to kill him. You'd think scurvy or something would have gotten him sooner.

sounds to me like he had other untreated medical conditions, something akin to an obsessive compulsive disorder centered around the food he ate.

Shame he couldn't have gotten more help before it was too late, but at 20 he's a grown up and can do what he likes even up to and including refusing treatment or counseling or taking vitamins or anything. Grownups dont have to do what docs tell them to do, or even what their mother tells them to do...

Every now and then you see an article like this out of Asia, about online game players. Some guy doesn't come out of his apartment for a month and they find the corpse surrounded by empty soda bottles and nothing else.

Nice story, but nobody like that is offered a liver transplant to "refuse." They are so rare you don't even get on the list in the first place if you are unlikely to follow the lifetime maintenance required. And deficiencies in clotting factors have been treated by manufactured recombinant replacement for many years now--at least until a court can declare them incompetent and order force-feeding via NG tube.

But what do you expect from the Sun?
