Some of the Jeled 50,000 mcd LEDs which I tested actually did better than that, albeit at only 1 mA. Still, I think it's great how far ahead of schedule LED development is. We should hopefully see power LEDs with 100 lm/W within 2 years. The best 5mm LEDs are practically there now.

I tend to agree with this statement. Moreover, I'm starting to think near 100% light conversion efficiency might well be possible eventually whereas before I figured we would be lucky to reach 75%.
