Lovely SUV vehicle.....:wow:

Too much $£$£$£$ for me to buy privately....but if the law wants to pay me to drive it around....it would be rude not to.... ;)

Sweet ride

They're testing yellow emergency vehicles here in Trondheim, I believe that Hi-viz yellow is better but not the coolest color around...

Range Rover is one of my fav cars, but it has to be black though.
It sure must be an advantage to have a big car like that if you need to ram other cars, but is it stable enough for high speed chases?

In the UK, emergency services are big on hi-viz....

the design of the colours is called 'Battenburg', after a type of cake. ie: the alternate squares.

It's supposed to register quickly on the human eye and therfore be an aid to road safety at the scene of collisions etc..

The Range Rover that we use also has a light mast on the roof which can be extended 20metres to allow a scene to be floodlit..

Cool pics! (could you please re-size them? thx).

I've always been intrigued... why is it that European emergency vehicles have such flashy markings while US ones are "low key"? Are all those colors reflective? It'd be really cool to get a night shot with all that reflection coming out ;)

...I think I need one of those jackets... see if the stupid drivers around here see me (on top of all my LED blinkers, and multiple lights :ohgeez:)

What lights do you have on yourself in the pics?

On my left hip, behind the baton, is a Streamlight pouch with a Scorpion flashlight in it...

I've since replaced it with a V70 holster and a Surefire C2......

The Range Rover is not speed vehicle....

For power in a vehicle, my other cruiser of choice is the Volvo V70-T5, 268bhp, twin turbo, 150mph+

I... errr... to put it lightly, have never seen such an ugly paint job in my life. (Ow, my eyes.)

No offense.

Do they really make you wear that stylish yellow jacket on the job?

Fun stuff. Around here most police vehicles are Ford Crown Vics, along with a few Explorers when they need something that'll roll over at high speed. :) In other places they use Chevy Impalas, and at one point someone was using Dodge Intrepids. Chevy Caprices (with the Corvette engine) used to be big. I've also seen the odd Camaro (usually used as a chase car out west) and once saw a Ford Excursion with police markings (can someone explain that one?) driving down the street.

I'm really impressed with Germany's police vehicles--big, powerful BMWs.

The "low-keyness" of new US police cars always baffles me. Most of the ones around here are jet black with gray stripes or something. Doesn't stand out enough for emergency purposes, and stands out too much if they're trying to blend in.

Oh hey whats the pay like? Is it a 2 year course that you do? I've been told you guys start at £18k? And most importantly what free flash lights do you get at work?

It's not paint...they are stickers/transfers.

The yellow jacket is to be worn when out of the vehicle on the highway...

and knowing how crap some drivers and their observations can be...it's saved my life on plenty of occasions...

The training initially is over a 2 year period...

Then if you specialise later on.....there's more training...

My road policing (highway patrol for our US buddies)..course and probation period was another 12 months..

As for pay; nowadays an officer starts on £20k and that goes up about £1700 each year....until he/she has 10 years service+ and the pay is then £32,000k.

With overtime last year, I earned £40k ($68k).....and with my wife being a cop and on the same wage, I suppose we're quite lucky...

As for personal flashlights...we only get AA mini-maglites....hence my move into proper illumination tools...:naughty:

That's exactly the reason I want one! Where can I get one? I know I can't get the police marked ones, but any similar ones? Are they waterproof/breathable?

...waiting for the nighttime/reflective shots ;)
