I read a lot on here about what people are EDCing... usually it's stuff like the surefire G2, or a fenix 1xAA, or a few photon/and/or clones... for the most part, it's lights that are less than 5" in length, usually smaller.

ever since my ultrafire 12V light came (which I put a G90 lamp and 2x17670 cells in), It has eithor been in my pocket, being charged, or being used. I've found that this size light is EDCable in most regular jean pockets without much hastle for me, head comes right above top of most of my pockets, and it's slim enough to ride comfortably. So is anyone else EDCing an 8" long flashlight? or am I the only one *looney* enough.

My EDC has become the L2 (which thanks to AW now has rechargeables that fit) for close work, and FiveMega's 3x600s Pilas Mag WA-1331 (2D size).

Sometimes I use my SF M4 now that I have 3x600s that work in it instead of 4x123's.

I must be equally as looney (I'm a flashaholic) because I EDC a Gerber LX3.0.
It too is 8'' long sporting 3 AA batts. It's built like a tank and has a fair amount of weight by itself, let alone with 3 NiMH batts. Not that I wouldn't appreciate something smaller, but with 50 lumens of 2+ hours of free runtime, crazy bright spill, a twistie w/momentary and a flat tail for standing, the LX3 just rocks. I have no problems with the LX3 riding in the deep pockets of my Dockers, what I wear most often.

When its dark outside, I often carry a SF 6P + (2xA19) + (2xPila168s) + P91. Which is a 4x123 :nana: . Don't carry it during the day tho. At 200 lumens or so, its plenty bright.

I used to keep a 4x123A light in my commuter bag, a 2x123A or 3x123A in my pocket. Now I do the reverse! Why? Because the commuter-bag light is used with a traffic cone at night; even a 70-lumen light will do. The 4x123A uses a P91, which I prefer for general use.

Having said that, I should note that I swapped tailcaps. The l-o-n-g Surefire Z48 clickie is now threaded onto my commuter bag light; the 4x123A body uses a short Digilight tailcap. That keep the 4x123A [barely] pocketable.

4x123 is a little large for me..but when I think I'll need more than the U60 I bring along my M3. And when I want to have some extra fun and reach out and touch something, I'll bring the D3 + SRTH Turbohead.. :)

Honestly, I don't think I've ever owned a 4x123 light though I guess 4x123 cells would fit ini a 2C Mag with the tailspring removed...

Longest light that every gets carried much is the 3x123 Streamlight TL-3 which I run on 2x17500 cells. If I really need more than 200-ish lumens for longer than an hour, I'd probably step up to a U-bin Magmod in a 2C host.

If 4x123A is too long, it's getting easier to find a 3x123A body that can accept higher-capacity 150A/18500 cells AND a 200-lumen lamp:
  • Wolf Eyes 9-series (with the new Wolf Eyes D26 or D36 lamp)
  • old Pila 3 series (with the new Wolf Eyes D26 or D36 lamp)
  • Pila's new 2x18500 lights
  • 2x18500 body from CPF's TranquillityBase (under Mods B/S/T) that accept a Surefire P-type head with an E-to-C adapter
  • Nextorch's rechargeable 9V at Emillion's can hold two 18500 cells and might be able to accept a P-type lamp; the head is a wide 38mm.

Nearly, the SL TL-3 3 cell ~200 lumens. When I need light I usually need a lot of it quickly.

Now, outdoor activities such as camping / hiking / working outdoors into the night, my standard EDC is the SF M4 4 cell on the belt.

It seems to me a nice configuration for a 4 X 123 would be 2 tubes of 2 batteries side by side, like the 4AA Propolymer. I would think that this could be an EDC configuration. Does such a light exist?

I wish!!! I've long admired the side-by-side configuration of AAA, AA, and C cells found in certain lights by Underwater Kinetics (UK) and IkeLight. A side-by-side 168A would be a dream come true.

I have an 8" Ultrafire with 12V compressed Xenon bulb, and 4 CR123's. Not only is it bright, it gets VERY HOT.

That is the light that melted a hole from the beam in a plastic bag, and got too hot to handle. I bumped something and turned it on. It ran for like 45 minutes before I noticed and managed to turn it off.

For that very reason I stopped using it. Just too dangerous. "If it's LED, it's for me."

Wolf Eyes and Pila 4x123A lights (old and new) are designed to remain comfortably warm (not hot) during prolonged use. That's why they use oversize, finned heads.
