Ok, Im sure it is somewhere in this forum.

How badly overdriven will a LUXIII be from two cr123's?
I know it will flat smoke a LUXI star:rolleyes:

It is sinked and thermal puttied:thanks:

You won't be significantly overdriving a lux3 with 6v. In fact after the first few seconds you won't be driving it at all...:poof:

I've abused a Lux I lowdome by direct drive off 2x123's--no current limiting resistor. It was on a Surefire KL3 head (big heatsink) and the battery pooped out without doing any damage. I hooked it up to a power supply and drove it at 4A and it fried within 30-45 seconds :D With a Lux III properly heat sunk, I'd say it would do better than my Lux I experiment.

I think the continuous current is more important than the voltage within reason, though 6V is obviously above and beyond reasonable. But we need a couple questions answered...

1. What is the bin of the star/emitter?
2. How much current is it pulling from 2 fresh cells?
3. Why are you doing this to the poor Lux III?

If it's an issue of wanting direct drive, you can always run it direct off of a 17670 or 18650 cell. That will give 3.7-4.2V and with reasonable use, should last a good long time unless it's a super low Vf.
