I noticed the review on flashlightreviews.com for the Allied Element with some interest. I had missed this review when first posted but found it only after I had bought a similar light. Sam's club now has an improved version of the Allied Element which has a 1.25 watt rather than 1 watt bulb.
I found it much brighter than my Dorcy Metal
http://www.flashlightreviews.com/reviews/dorcy_metalgear.htm
and than my Dorcy 1 watt AAA
http://www.flashlightreviews.com/reviews/dorcy_luxeon.htm
This in contrast to the review for the 1 watt element that was weaker than these two Dorcy's in throw.
The 1.25 watt Element looks just like the 1 watt Element featured in flashlighreviews
but also mentioned on the package is the following:
Advanced Digital Circuitry - Provides More Consistent Output. This implies some type of voltage regulator, although the package has no more revealing information. For $24.38 plus tax for 2 of these, they are a great bargain in my very uniformed opinion.
Now I need to find an inexpensive 3 watt light to complement these.
