So I've had plans of building a custom direct driven light since I ordered my Peak CPF special, and this weekend I was able to cut down a Mag AA and rethread, so my project is-a-go.

So here's what I've got, a cutdown Mag AA with a single protected lithium 14500. LED, as stated, will be direct driven. Heatsinking shouldn't be a problem as I've got a good plan for that and will only be using the light for short intervals. Also, at this stage, I'm not too worried about run time...really I just want a lot of light, like my Peak CPF special.

I measured on a R123A, just over 3.6 volts at 1 amp draw, so I was thinking something in a J bin. I believe this would be little over driven with freshly charged batteries, but wouldn't this be tolerable, and make better use of the battery? So what do you guys think? Would a U--K be better at these voltages than a T--J, in terms of light output and available tint?

Also, where to buy?
