Is that a good idea.?

We already have multi-led switchable torches.

One (or more) with say 3 luxeon leds, switchable, to give increased illumination.

Main problem would be focussing the leds, perhaps a wide base reflector, not giving such a narrrow spot as accustomed with single luxeon led.

I do appreciate that 3 luxeons would probably give only double output of 1 luxeon, so therefore choice between 1 or 3 on switch.

Probably need AA or C cells for reasonable battery life.

Other idea, is there a multi-led torch which has a luxeon as central led ?

Not just headlamp, they seem to have few led's

Do a search for Tri-Lux or Quad here at the forums and you will be very pleased with the results.

You can try Kroma too :D

There are lots of lights just like the ones you decribed.
Usually in the form of a Mag C or D.
There is aslo a Tri-lux III made by Nuwaii.

The Kroma is the new light from Surefire.
It has a ring of 5mm Leds around a Optic which hosts a Lux III i beleive.

Yeah, the PQS or PTS with 20mm IMS reflectors make near perfect focusing a snap...

You can also search for a forum member named WildRice that did a PQS with 4 different colored Lux IIIs. Had a switch to select which LED would light up and it had an nFlex controller to have variable brightness.

VERY cool!
