Just wanted to show off my newly formed KL3 / KL5 Modular Parts Setup :D

I got the L5 a while back, been really happy with it.
I wanted to get the KL3 head to compliment it.
Big Thanks to CPF Member G-2 !!!! He was a pleasure to deal with,
and had the KL3 on the way, packaged so well not even UPS could have damaged it! :goodjob: :thanks: :buddies:

The Black Samurai body, tube extender, and black tail stand tailswitch, are all from Emilions shop.

The parts are too bad, especially for the price, but the threads are quite rough.
I cleaned them all up first, getting a few metal flakes out.

The sad part is, Surefire Tailcaps will not work on the extender tube :(
The Surefire clickie works rather well on the Samurai body though.

Emilions Guarded Reverse Clickie tailcap will work on the Surefire bodies though.

I like the setup alot, gives me alot of options.
I am thinking of getting a Z2 body for the KL3 though,
while I like the look of the KL3+ Samurai or 6P body, I find it doesnt have near as much grip as I would like.
I like the Surefire bodies that have the large rubber o-rings for grip.

I'm hoping you can help me. I'm considering a KL5 head. Do you know how output would compare to a luxIII T bin driven at 1200ma? I know the throw will be less but was wondering about total output. I ask sense SF recently rated the L5 at 100L up from 65L. I'm thinking my LuxIII KL3 modded head is probably putting around 80L through the lens.

I took a few beamshots the other night that may help you out.

What version KL3 is your mod? does it have a reflector? what mA?

I would think the KL5 would be a good bit more overal light,
it really lights up a room well, the spot fades out to a corona and spill more,
and the spill it brighter.

I plan on getting the KL3 head for my C2...

JTICE, in the pictures that you posted, is that a beamshot of an un-modded KL3 head?

Thanks

My KL3 was modded by Chop. TV1J emitter at 1200ma. Pelican M6 reflector. I'm not sure which light it would be most comparable to in your beam shots. It's probably a little brighter than the T4.

Are the KL5 heads as bright as the full L5 light. Seem like it should be but didn't know if SF changed the L5 lights to increase output but not the seperate heads.

Will a 3.7V Pila Li-ion power this thing in regulation?

Thanks for your help. I love the beamshots.

Lightedge: that's a gen1 KL3 modded right? It looks different than jtice's right?

Yes. My KL3 is a gen1. I've modified the switch to be 2 stage with a McC2S tailcap mod. It's a great light that I now have a LOT of money in now. I started working on this before the U2 was even a glimmer in anyones eye. Lot's of modularity though. I also put a HA3 A19 extender on it and run it on 2xPila 150S.

Yup I figured it was a gen1. I don't think chop has modified the gen2's yet. I'm wondering how easy they would be. I bet there isn't any borign needed to fit the PR in there.
