Let's shop at Sears!

Claim: Sears pays the difference in salaries and maintains benefits for their called-up military reservist employees.

Status: True.

Example: [Collected on the Internet, 2003]

"I HOPE you have all seen the reports about how Sears is treating its reservist employees who are called up? By law, they are required to hold their jobs open and available, but nothing more. Usually, people take a big pay cut and lose benefits as a result of being called up.

Sears is voluntarily paying the difference in salaries and maintaining all benefits, including medical insurance and bonus programs, for all called up reservist employees for up to two years. I submit that Sears is an exemplary corporate citizen and should be recognized for its contribution.

I suggest we all shop at Sears, and be sure to find a manager to tell them why we are there so the company gets the positive reinforcement it well deserves.

Pass it on."

Sears has been bought by K-Mart since that story broke, and since Snopes last update. It might be good to find out if K-Mart is still honoring the policy before accepting it fully. I'm not saying they aren't. I'm just mentioning that there has been a significant change.

It's good to hear that Sears is trying to be a good corportate citizen. My judgement is still clouded by their apparent automotive service fraud. The incident I remember was many years ago. When I looked online, I found one from just 4 years ago in New Jersey. Perhaps this is a chronic problem. We're not talking about one or two bad apples in a large corportation. This is systematic regionwide fraud. Charging for services that are not physically possible on the customers vehicle. Basically scamming their customers.

Again, I'm glad that Sears is supporting our troops. Perhaps I will eventually forgive their breech of trust and shop there again.

Edit: It's good to see that K-mart bought Sears. Perhaps this will end their problem of charging the correct amount for auto repairs.

here's an email to the Sears Customer Service Department sent by person I got info from:

I received this email and I would like to know if it is true. If it
is, the Internet may have just become one very good source of
advertisement for your store. I know I would go out of my way to buy
products from Sears instead of another store for a like item even if it
was cheaper at the other store.

Here is their answer to my email......................
Dear Customer:

Thank you for contacting Sears.

The information is factual. We appreciate your positive feedback.
Sears regards service to our country as one of greatest sacrifices our
young men and women can make. We are happy to do our part to lessen the
burden they bear at this time.

I thought that Sears bought K-Mart, not the other way around...?

The company that bought Kmart while it was operating under bankruptcy a couple years ago purchased Sears last year. They are now operating the various Sears operations and Kmart under the title Sears Holdings. Guess they thought the Sears brand had stronger name recognition than Kmart. I noticed many Craftsman items popping up in the Kmart near me.

Sounds good to me. Some of my favorite gear I bought at Sears. How many other companies have this policy?
