How to focus TL-3 for max throw?

I focus my TL-2 and TL-3 to make a round hotspot with little to no center hole(artifacts in hotspot, but no feathering outside the hotspot). Does focusing it further to where the hotspot gets smaller and the beam around the hotspot starts to flower/feather/bow-tie produce better throw?

Getting it down to as tight a hotspot as you can might increase the throw a bit, but I find that a reasonable size hotspot makes the TL-2 more usable for short range use, more so than a real tight hot spot from a CR123 light (like the Pelican M6.) And the TL-2 (at least in the case of mine) won't focus down as tight as the hot spot on a PM6
