hds edc42xrgt vs edc60xrgt, worth the extra 50 bucks? opinions? thoughts?

I"m leaning towards "settling" for 42 lumens, in a month or so.

10 posts, 2 new flashlights, and already looking at an HDS... I'm doomed.

Think about it this way, if 42 lumens is enough for you, you're paying $50 for extended runtime, since the 60 lumen model would use less power to put out 42 lumens than the 42 lumen model would.

You're not just buying 18 lumens, you're buying better runtimes at lower levels. A 42XR at 42 lumens will last about 50 minutes with a Cr123A lithium, or 30 minutes with a R123 lithium ion. A U60XR at 42 lumens will last significantly longer. Well over an hour with a R123.

I was thinking the same thing a couple weeks ago before I bought mine, and I went with the U60 XR GT. I knew that I needed to have the very best one available, and would eventually buy it either way, so I went with it from the start.

I'll add something which nobody has noticed it seems.

SO FAR, NOBODY HAS COMPLAINED ABOUT _ANY_ HDS LIGHT HAVING BAD TINTS.

I see no reason to pay extra for the GT model as such. Moreover, I personally would not pay extra anyway.

I think the extra $50 is worth it for getting the ultimate model with all its options. :)

Actually there have been a few people unhappy with the non-GT tint;

At an extra $20 it is worth it for some.

My own personal opinion is my Basic 60 GT has just about the same brightness as my U85 on a white wall. The U85 is slightly brighter I guess, but not by much because it is not a GT model. Anyway, I would recommend spending the extra money or wait just a little while longer and go for a U85 GT. You will not be disappointed!

Enjoy!
