Overdriving PR base red LEDs?

I just got in some red LEDs (PR2-R2-4.5V RED LED FlashLight bulb). I found a thread warning they were pretty dim, and on a 2 C cell, they are.

I also recently got a 4AA small lantern. I pulled the bulb, which says it's 4.8V. Now, I assume 4AA will be overdriving the 4.5V red LED? That may reduce bulb life, but how significantly? Any other potential problems?

Thanks!

I use one in my son's 2-aa Pooh flashlight and while it is dim he really likes it.

Haven't had to change batteries yet.

I have mine in a 4AA flashlight with NiMH batteries. Have not used it much so cannot say if LED life is affected.

Thanks. I guess, for the price, I should wring a couple of them out now, so I have time to get more before I deploy, if they're worth it...

I've used two in two PIR night lights, 4.8v nimh, absolutely no problems after two years now.

One under bed, illuminates floor as you enter room, one by en-suite door in bedroom, so used most nights several times.
