Yes. This has been discussed in the past and also not that long ago. :wave:

I think Energizer has a brief history discussing where the name "flashlight" was derived from.

I've always thought that they were called flashlights is for signaling uses, take a navigator's kerosene lamp, put blinds on it, and by toggling the blinds, works like morse code, originally for the military, but thats undocumented...
