Just curious - when, and by what mechanism, did Easter become a holiday dedicated to rabbits bearing gifts. Taking it one step further, by whom ,and when, did multicolored eggs, become the gift of choice for a frigging rabbit.

When, and why, did baby chickens (both real and chocolate) become a popular gift of a rabbit?

When, and by whom, was the connection made between Easter and chocolate rabbits and eggs (when did rabbits start laying eggs?).

Easter was originally celebrated with Easter Chickens and not Easter Rabbits. The change occurred when the automobile was invented and it was determined that chickens couldn't cross the road fast enough . It became a real problem because you had smashed Easter Chickens all long the side of the road. Chicken also under stress lay different colored eggs and crossing a interstate highway with a basket twice the Easter Chickens size caused an immense amount of stress before the rabbit change over thus the eggs were really colorful.

Wow I thought everyone knew this.
