The L2 head will work on 2x123. It will be underdriven.
If you use 2xR123 you can expect very short life from the Luxeon V. I've read of two CPF members that have fried the Luxeon in the head of a L2 when driven with rechargeable 123s in a E2L body.

That looks more like a KL4..

The KL4 has a longer centre section (the section with the flute cuts). I get the impression that is an L2 bezel because the centre section is shorter than the front section...

I think you're right - good eye, I held my KL4 up and compaired and I could have sworn that's what it was..

However, SureFire changed the L2 bezel, lengthening both the centre section and the front section I believe...
The KL4 bezel should have "KL4" etched on it (even as part of the L4 or ScoutLight).
The L2 bezel only has the Caution: Hot Surface etched onto it.
