My efforts to find an 3W red LED AA flashlight seem to have failed. (Maybe there is no such beast.) Ultrafire makes a 3W white LED AA flashlight. I was thinking about buying one and swapping the LED with a red Luxeon. Then I noticed that the Ultrafire uses a Z-LED. Does anyone know if this has the same form factor (size) as the Luxeon, as the Luxeon 3W reds seem easier to get than the Z-LEDs.

Looks like a real Luxeon on a star but it is slightly larger in the die. It might substitute ok in many applications. It is covered in this thread.

Zled 2.5 Watt is like the lux III. These spec sheets should give you all you need for sizes and circuit planning. It seems to me the larger size makes the light output and I am amazed it runs so well on 2 AAs. The light discussed in the following thread has, for now, become my favorite light, at least the most useful.
The spec sheet is 25 pages, binning sheet 39 pages. The specs are PDF. They are at www.zled.com .
