Looking for a "wow" of a good led headlamp. I currently have a .5w River Rock 2AAA headlamp but want more overall output(something comparable to a 1w with different modes). I need something for night hiking with decent run time 2+ hours. What I would like is output similar to my SL Lux Jr. with different light levels/modes and one that uses common batteries. Any suggestions or recommendations? Thanks.

Look through that list. It should give you a few good suggestions. I have a Nuwai headlamp that uses 2xCR123a. It's regulated on constant high output for 5hrs! It was great for camping since I wouldn't have to change the batteries for a couple of days if I used medium output (11hrs).

Maybe the Petzel Tikka XP (3xAAA) is good for you.

I think you'll find the Princeton Tec EOS meets your needs. You can probably find some good reviews in the headlamps forum here on CPF, as well as numerous comparisons to the Petzl Tikka XP on the net at large.

I personally prefer the PT EOS for several reasons.

Take a look to the Silva L1.

It has a 3W Lux. with 3stages and strobefunction.
It needs 4xAA or 4xBaby-cells in a beltcarrier. (Good for cold conditions under the wear)

I love mine

Best regards
