I'm usung a KL-3 6P combo and was wondering what is the best type of rechargeables to use? I have found it will run on 1 x 17670 from AW, but I also assume it will run on 2x r123s, which I currently don't have.

I'm pretty sure my 17670s are 1600mah (I'm at work and can' check) and that's more than two r123s @ 700mah each, but then the r123s are putting out 7.2v - 8.4v.

Does any one have any info on which is the better option? Is it worth getting 2x protected r123s?

Hmmm,
I'm also a Newb at Rechargeables But I also ran that 6P/KL-3 setup and last month and I asked AW if his R123's would be able to push my 6P/KL-3 setup and he said...

"yes it should be able to push it..However, I would suggest using a single protected 17670 for 2-3X runtime"

But now I have a detonator on my 6P/KL-3 with 2 of AW's P'17500's..Not any brighter just longer runtime:naughty:

Hope that helped:candle:

I'm currently running this set-up with 2xRCR123s. I don't have the equipment to do any type of run time testing, but I seem to get about an hour, maybe more. I'm guessing you will give up some output with the single 3.7v in exchange for the increased runtime.

Since I have an extender, I may try out the 2x17500 setup.

I use a G2/KL3 (gen2.3) setup with two of lighthounds rcr123. I once clocked 1:45 runtime.

I prefer two cells over one, because a single cell is bellow the Vf of the led, lowering the output.

Been doing an informal run since my last post in this thread (while watching CSI-Miami), just reaching the 2-hr mark, maybe 50% initial brightness on 2xRCR123s. Estimates by eye only, as mentioned before I have no equipment to test. Sounds about right, as I've seen runtime on primaries at 4.5 hrs. Output still useful, but probably gonna end the test soon.
I've also got a G&P 3w module that I've used in this same set-up, which only gets 1 hr of runtime.
