I originally purchased 12v red led cluster approx 20 leds 10ma, and a 12v white led cluster, approx 30 leds 100ma, for messing about with.

On a visit to local store, they were selling off unwanted portable speaker with battery amp waterproof cd playing boxes. £1...

I combined the two.

Cut out the LS apertures, fitted a couple of switches, the result is below.

Red led's only, 10ma @ 12v, approx 100 hours life.

White led's only, 100 ma @ 12v, approx 10 hours life.

Both on, red led's dim, with my cheapo AA's

Obviously twice the duration with proper alkalines / nimh's.

Batteries, 8 x AA's in battery box, though the switches.

Total cost= £ not a lot, < £10

Very nice piece of creative thinking!
Where will you keep it?

Kees

It lives on the top floor of my 3 storey house, sort of emergency light, next to my Hi Ω switched torch, where the glow from the led's lasts months, unless I switch it on.

For normal emergency in house backup, I use Dae's 49 / 12 led torch

49 leds=4 hours, 12 leds=7 hours

Actually, SMJLED PR2 lasts 15 hours in 2AA torch, alkalines

plus a couple of 2 tube 4 hr flouro 3 ft light boxes, Woolies £10. inc 12v battery

Very cool idea ;)

Here is my own version of a multi-LED emergency light (although "only" for about 20 hours or so), using a 2d M*g and cheap "D" alkalines:

My own current emergency long runtime lights are

- Electrolumens BL-1R
- two 4 (3mm)LED 2 D-cell lights
- two 8/4 LED 4AA LED headlights
- 7 LED 4AA Streamlight clone

These are all 20+ hours lights.
And there are of course many others with (slightly) less runtime.

I'm not much of a modder myself, so these are all stock.
