Just got this back from Maglite themselves. They use a 3 watt Luxeon LED.
Purchased one of these lights yesterday at Wal Mart in Lancaster SC. They had the 2 d cell lights as wellas the 3 c or d led replacements. The flashlight itself was 38.88 and the replacement drop in was 18.97.
In my honst opinion the light was worth every dollar. Has an excellent throw, very concentrated beam when foucused and mine did not have the famous "Mag Lite black hole" in the beam.
I have been lurking on the site for a while and you guys have given me the lite bug. I will add more to my profile as well as listings of my lights when I get a chance.
