I can't believe how much information there is on Flashlights. I haven't stopped
reading for days!!.
Fascinating
subject. Thanks to all.
Living in Canada, the brokerage and custom charges that UPS and FedEx
charges are absurd. Does anyone know where I can purchase a
Streamlight
Luxeon 4AA flashlight and have it shipped US Postal service. Zeide

Depending on where you live, check out the local police supply store as they usually will carry several decent lights. Mind you, their prices are a little inflated and it will be entirely up to you if to pay the added premium. Failing that, as a fellow Canadian I've never had any problems dealing with lighthound.com (no insane customs haggling, and he uses USPS so no fees to be paid either). There are a few Canadians on this forum so I'm sure you'll find more places.

Thank you to both responders. I have ordered a Fenix L2T and a Streamlight
4AA Luxeon. Both places will ship as requested to me here in Canada.
PS. I cannot believe that I am hooked on Flashlights but the more I read and
research, the more I am falling in love with them. Are there any conventions
with a focus on Flashlights? Thanks again for your help. Zeide

Welcome from another Canadian newcomer to the forums ...

If you live in Toronto, Ottawa or Montreal, you can try Le Baron (large outdoor products store). They carry a good selection of Streamlight, Inova, and Coast lights (plus others), at reasonable prices.

You can also try their online site (http://www.lebaron.ca), but it's pretty bad as it only has scans from their catalogue (which is not searchable and very poorly organized!). Also, don't let the catalogue fool you - individual stores can stock a lot that isn't in the catalogue. I know the one here in Toronto carries at least 2-3X as many Steamlight models than what's listed there. Can't remember if they have the Luxeon 4AA or not ... give 'em a call if you're near one.

Edit: Small world - just ordered a Fenix L2T myself, and have been seriously considering a SL Luxeon 4AA for around the home. Guess we formed similar opinons from this site!

Thank you for the information Selfbuilt. I live in London Ontario but I do
travel to Toronto to see family. Since I am now retired (age 57) I have all
the time in the world to explore the wonderful world of flashlights. Zeide.

Welcome to CPF. There's the annual SHOT Show where the newest in guns, knives, and flashlights are shown off. At SHOT you can pretty much expect all the major manufacturers to be there... as well as a _lot_ of CPFers.

Welcome fellow Canadian! You have stumbled upon a great forum here! Have fun!!! My first advice to you from one Canadian to another is this:

NEVER USE UPS OR FEDEX FOR SHIPPING! NEVER. EVER.

Like you said, the brokerage fees alone is enough to make you faint.

Always ship USPS whenever possible. Usually, their Global Priority service is pretty cheap and pretty fast. The "brokerage fees" is a whole $5 (Canadian funds). The only other fee you pay is the 15% taxes that you would normally pay if you bought in Canada (but that can sometimes be circumvented as well :naughty: ).

Enjoy your time here!

Thank you Wave_Particle.
I was forced to retire several years ago because of health issues. Being
an airline pilot, you are always one missed heartbeat from ending your career
and that is what happened to me. Thankfully my health is fine today with
proper medication, but I do miss flying. I paid my dues for 26 years flying the
line and thankfully my wife and I are comfortable. Again to all, thanks for the
warm welcome and I look forward to contributing as best I can. Zeide.

I've bought all of my lights from store sellers on Ebay. Most of these outfits ship USPS in plain brown wrappers, and sometimes with fudged customs declarations. I've only been hit for duty and taxes once out of four semi-expensive light purchases.

I bought my Lux4AA from u_name_it_411 some time back and had no problems other than the usual three week wait (!) for USPS crossborder shipping.
