Just tried opening up my Gerber IU with a heatgun since I read the posts that said a heatgun, hairdryer, or boiling (heat) breaks down the glue. Heated it up quite hot, but couldn't twist the darn thing open. I had on a pair of mechanics gloves...ok for heat...if I held it too long, it'll start to burn tho, so it was definitely hot. Any other suggestions? I was hoping to swap the LED for a CS.

Anyone in southern california done this before that wouldn't mind helping me out? I was hoping not to mar the finish up too much in opening it so I'm trying not to resort to pliers (which I've damaged the finish on some of my lights before even with a good amount of padding, cloth, even 3mm thick rubber strap in between). Tho, I did get another IU just in case I ended up damaging or uglifying this one.
Thanks.

1. Masking tape the jaws of two pairs of pipe wrenches.

2. Heat the top of the IU.

3. Grit your teeth

4. Listen to the grind as the glue gives way.

Its not nice to do, its not easy.
