I emailed the seller questions about the mod after seeing it on ebay.I asked how he stepped down the voltage to drive an LS.This is what he replied:
Hi,
Thanks for the email, resistor is used to keep the current at a safe level.
Currently I'm driving the luxeon led at 450ma which is slightly
higher than the factory spec, I leaved it on for 12 hours without any sign
of over heating. I didn't think a LDO current regulator was necessay, beside
space won't permit due to the taper head and the relative size of the luxeon
led. I'm very satisfy with just the resistor. I want to keep it simply, so
Murphy's law was applied in this case.
